Hi All,

Seems like Samsung has added some trick to their brand new S20 Fan Edition device, as previous S20 series devices.
= Galaxy S20 FE has a hidden 96Hz display mode=

With this 96hz hidden option you can restrict the adaptive refresh rate to work to 96hz allowing your phone to prolong battery life.

https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s20-96hz-refresh-rate-mode/

https://github.com/Made-With-Fingertips/Dynamic-Display/releases/
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/sszb.s20.refresh

Also, seems that Samsung allows to change both refresh rate and screen resolution using Bixby Routines.
I am checking if these is true or how. But if someone knows better step-by-step how to, please let a comment and i will update this thread.

[{id=1, width=1440, height=3200, fps=60.000004},
{id=2, width=1440, height=3200, fps=48.0},

{id=3, width=1080, height=2400, fps=120.00001},
{id=4, width=1080, height=2400, fps=96.00001},
{id=5, width=1080, height=2400, fps=60.000004},
{id=6, width=1080, height=2400, fps=48.0},

{id=7, width=720, height=1600, fps=120.00001},
{id=8, width=720, height=1600, fps=96.00001},
{id=9, width=720, height=1600, fps=60.000004},
{id=10, width=720, height=1600, fps=48.0}]

How to use:
Ensure that you are running in FHD+ or HD+ resolution (QHD+ does NOT support 96 or 120 Hz, only 48 Hz and 60 Hz)

Install the APK onto your S20
Launch the app; if you see a warning dialog "This app was built for an older version...", just click "OK" and ignore it

Grant WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission to the app using ADB:
adb shell pm grant com.ray.customrefreshrate android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Tap on "Check Permissions"

The main UI should show, with the current refresh rate selected
Tap on any of the desired refresh rates to change to; it should apply immediately
Open up your web browser and go to testufo.com to verify the new refresh rate is in effect.

everyone says it is working. check and comment.
cheers.

and a BIG THANK YOU to DEVS who made this possible through all their hard work and dedication!!

This was the first thing I tried after setting up my FE. But upon testing it only changes the refresh rate to 60hz.

hi,

how you set it up?
meaning: did you used Bixby Routines to have medium power saver on with High Refresh rate?

then, did you used the app to setup the refresh rate default from 120 to 60 and then change the aps you need to use 96hz refresh rate?
cheers.

No. I just installed the app and selected default refresh rate to 96.

find here the steps to set it up.

This does not work. Attempted to give permissions via adb. Still testufo site shows 60fps when you select 96hz.
Selected standard and high refresh in settings and selected 96hz on either setting. No dice.

No, it does not.
I have the S20 FE 5G (Snapdragon) version here bought in germany from Samsung Store.
I used adb dumpsys display
It has only 60 or 120hz and also only FullHD+ resolution, not even HD+ but that is normal when the panel only has FullHD+.
So sadly this means your App does not work.

But I found a way to automatically switch between 120hz and 60 hz.
I use a Bixby routine to switch to standard refresh rate (60hz) when chosen apps are open.
This is working fine and changes the refresh rate automatically within 2 seconds after app opening/switching/closing.

Is there a way to activate it since it's only software wise? Or is this something only Samsung can do if they decide to patch it in as a hidden feature like the other S20s?

This app and any 96 Hz mode will never work with the S20 FE (5G) as the panel does not support it.

I already wrote this in post #8.
