when the device gets a little warm.
yup. this is exactly what happened during the restore process. phone was on charge and it was restoring and updating around 100 apps. internet was extremely slow at the time.

i have a feeling that this is a software issue. samsung is throttling wifi to save on battery or something. BUT. they have had almost a year to optimize wi-fi on this phone.

october update might have a fix assuming they know about this issue. but it is currently available only in europe. it's unlikely india is getting it this week. would have been nice to test out wifi after installing it.

yeah. the throttling of wireless connectivity is really annoying. i noticed it when the phone took almost an hour to restore the phone. i am on a 300mbps connection and it really shouldn't have taken that long. checked wifi settings and saw that it was connected at 15mbps. downloading telegram took around 5 minutes which is when i realized that something was terribly wrong.
I came across your review on Amazon, and it gave a sense of relief that I was not the only one. My whatsapp media took over 2 hours to restore which is when I knew something was wrong. I'll also apply for a replacement, but it is the same procedure for me as well where a technician has to visit first. Let's see.

based on my experience, they would try to settle the matter on phone. learn from my mistake.
they would ask you to reset the phone and do another test. tell them you have already done it and it has not fixed the issue. they might make more excuses. but try to get them to process a replacement request on that phone call if they are unwilling to visit.

to be honest, a visit from a tech guy is not going to help out. this is not a build quality issue. this is not a display tint issue. if you restart your phone and are on a fresh wifi connection, you would get proper speeds. even if you are able to show him slowdown, he would just restart the phone or turn off/on the wifi and the problem would be 'magically fixed'.

if the technician visit fails. get amazon support to call you and be firm and ask for a replacement (if you want to experiment with another unit) or refund (i am pretty much taking this direction now tbh). the replacement window is too small to wait for the october security update to see if it fixes this problem on indian units.

This is what I thought as well. Since all the previous reviews have not mentioned a word about any WiFi issues!

I know a person who has had the phone for 2/3 months. Will check with him if he faces this issue in the September update.

yes please. i cannot find anyone in my circle who has this phone. most people i imagine use cellular internet so might not have seen this issue. others might be on 40mbps airtel plans which probably would also not be very visible.

ask him to install the WiFiman app from Ubiquiti (if there is a better app to monitor wifi connection speed [not internet speed], do tell). On the second tab of this app, you can see wi-fi connection speed which is continuously updated. On my S10 Lite, it remains stable at 866mbps in close proximity to Archer C6. S20FE5G on the other hand dances between 8mbps and 866mbps. Most of the time it is stuck in 500-600mbps region.

heh yeah. i was kind of worried when i saw made in india label on the box lol. looks like samsung prepared this batch specifically for the amazon sale. getting them assembled locally probably enabled them to offer a good price to amazon perhaps coz of low taxes.

Samsung India is largest manufacturing base for Samsung. Most phones sold in India are Made in India this days.(Except S20 flagships and Fold series). Dont think quality will be compromised

I understand that. And do hope that it is a firmware issue. But it's not a popular enough phone to make headlines to get Samsung to look into this issue or at least issue a statement. I have a thread about this on Samsung Forum and the official account told me to submit logs using their app. This is basically what they do in all threads but do not tell if the data was analyzed and any problems were discovered.

If they did not notice this problem during the manufacturing process, it's possible that October update is not going to fix it. All this is assuming that they can fix this problem through a software update.

SD. I am guessing ongoing Amazon sale on this phone would bring in a bit of traffic to this thread if this is not an isolated problem with the phone.

He claims to not have such issues. He's running the latest update as well, so I'm leaning towards believing that this is not a software issue. Anyways, I got a direct replacement booked by calling Amazon (thanks for the heads up, I'd have had to deal with the technician if done through app)

Hoping this doesn't occur on the replacement unit. Other than this issue I've really come to like the phone. Fingers crossed!

yeah, a second unit with same issue would be good sign to get a refund.
i might go for refund myself assuming i have that option. my s10 lite is still in pretty good shape. and september batch seems like too much trouble.

Can you install an app like WiFiMan and check on the second tab is network speed remains stable while keeping the phone at the same distance from the router!

I also imagine that this issue would only be noticeable to folks who have high speed internet at home. Mine is around 300mbps. People with gigabit internet at home are likely to be most affected by this.

If you are on a plan with speeds under 100mbps, you would most likely not notice it unless I imagine you do a lot of data transfer on local network like streaming from a PC or NAS.

    Hi,

I'm trying to resolve my WiFi problems on Samsung S20 FE 5G. When I download large files (games, updates, big apps) WiFi speed drops from 300 Mbps (that's my provider speed) to < 10 Mbps or even completely stops. It happens after a few minutes of download (sometimes less) - the estimated download time goes from few minutes to few hours. If I continue to download speed usually goes up again after another few minutes. Or I can restart wifi/put phone in airplane mode/restart it - it restores normal WiFi speed.
What I've already tried but didn't help:
    - reset phone network settings
    - reset router to factory settings and tried changing some of its options
    - changed WiFi channel
    - checked in safe mode of the phone
    - tried without my silicone case on the back of the phone (as it might be some overheating issue)
    - set my WiFi network as unmeasured in the phone settings (don't know really if that's the correct name of this setting in English)
    - set WiFi connection to use phone MAC address instead of random one
    - disabled automatic switching to mobile data when wifi connection quality is poor
    - update the phone to latest August version (Android 11)
    - wipe cache partition
    - turned on enchanced processing

On other devices in my network connection is stable with 300 Mbps - checked with Speedtest.net. On 2.4 GHz WiFi problem also occur but only sometimes - on 5 GHz it happens every time. I also didn't notice it on LTE.

It seems that it might be some overheating issue so I've installed CPU monitor to check it - during download temperature went up from 30 Celsius degrees to over 50, then the connection speed dropped, temperature went down to about 40 degrees Celsius and after some time the speed increased again.

Is there any thing I can also do before returning phone to Samsung service?

Would do in a couple of hours. It's just annoying that Amazon would not offer a replacement for manufacturing fault within the first week of purchase as per their own policy. And is forcing me to deal with third party outlets who are not going to understand the wi-fi stability issue on this device. They have a stupid app that tests phone and of course, it found my phone properly functional.
Dude call them don't use that ****ty app to find the issue request a call directly rn!

It could be the site doing it . Also turn airplane mode on turn off wifi on phone . Go to developer options at bottom limit back ground processes to one or none. Close all your apps now turn wifi on phone and download your file and just let it be only thing see if that increases download speed. Also you can get 60 0r 120 refresh rate . Powersaving mode automatically puts it at 60. Im trying a new 96hz refresh mode found online supposed to balance smoothness and power.
