So the whole internet is questioning the smaller battery in the vanilla S22.

However as I am upgrading from a HTC U11 I am expecting it at least to not be a downgrade regarding battery life, right?

I am finding it hard to compare online, so I hoped someone over here would be able to say something wise on this subject before I put my pre-order in.
My U11 has had a new battery quite recently and I am satisfied with the battery life.
If the S22 would be similar or better I would be happy to buy it.

Of course it's difficult to talk on S22 battery life as the device is barely out but maybe someone could elaborate on their knowledge, for example from owning a S21?

i doubt itd be worse, as the exynos 2200 should be much more power efficient than the snapdragon 835 (considering the efficiency of the exynos 2100). all in all it shouldnt be a downgrade, though it may not be too impressive either. maybe wait for it to release and wait for some reviews, then buy it. thats the safe option.

Thanks for your reply, I will await some reviews for sure.

The difficult thing is that reviewers are (of course) comparing to current models.
I would like a comparison with my current device.

As long as it's no downgrade for sure, it would be good enough for me.

There are multiple battery tests on youtube and they are all looking good. Marques Brownlee and some influencers bashed s22 battery right after the launch date and may have scared off few people but they have all retracted their opinions after more and more real life test results started popping up.
S22 should last all day, most test results have 5-7 SOT depending on the usage. Same tests show that Plus and Ultra have longer battery life but not by a long shot.

I have had the S22 for 3 days now. After debloating and turning off nearly everything in the background that I don't need, I think a full day will be no problem. I was worried as the battery seemed small versus the larger phones.

If you don't "fiddle" with your phone and run this right from the box I think you will struggle to last the entire day. There is a lot of crap on the phone running. There are so many hidden settings. So many apps trying to run in the background. Trying to connect/search for other devices.
I am coming from a 3 year old Huawei P30 Pro with Emui 10 and I find this software terrible (even compare to Emui! )

I used ADB AppControl to debloated. Great software. Very easy.

Just got my S22 (snapdragon) in. In playing around with it, the battery percentage was dropping like crazy. Hopefully with some configuration and over time it will get better like yours
I too got my S22 and the battery performance is good as I only play games for an hour but the phone withstands for 1&half day! Try to optimize the battery and clean the background running apps.

Could you tell which apps you removed and what exact fiddling you did?
I switched from HTC U11+ to S22+ and I am really disappointed with the battery life.
I can`t even get through a day, with SOT less than 3 hours.

Good info - I am hoping that the 60 hertz refresh rate will improve SOT a lot .

I like the size but I HATE that they did not make it .2 inches thicker and give it 4100 MAH !

Or a PRO version - .3 thicker for another $100-150 with 4500 MAH . People like me who use phone as a laptop and millions of others would love it.

Marketing research shows that the thinness is a big selling point ?¿

You will not meet women if your phone is too thick ?¿

¿ = WTF lol

Also - I wonder if there is a fixed refresh rate like 60 hertz only .

Because - the variable refresh rate may use battery as it is always scanning usage to assign ( possibly ) refresh rate.

The refresh rate for static pages was supposed to go down to 10 hertz but only S22 ULTRA does this .

So gamers should be able to switch to 120 hertz when needed ...and hopefully the rest of us can save battery by setting 'fixed 60 hertz '- hopefully .

I have not purchased S22 yet until I am sure I can get 6 hours SOT on LTE 4 or 5G at 30 % to 35 % brightness.

I Appreciate all the info here.

I am very happy to fiddle!
Never owned a Samsung device, so some new techniques to master maybe.

Would ADB AppControl require root?

As I'm reluctant to root directly because I might return the device if I'm not happy (battery & haptic notifications?).

kinda disappointing how my budget poco m3 lasts 2 days with heavy usage, but a flagship which is 2 years newer can barely manage a day.. i know that high end devices consume more power, and the battery in the s22 is smaller. but i wouldve expected tech to become advanced enough for it to atleast compete with larger battery counterparts which are releasing in 2022. so far the s22 and s22 ultra are pretty disappointing in battery life. though, the mi 12 with the 888 gen1 chipset doesnt have great battery life either.. so not really sure if its the chip or the batteries. guess we'll find out more as we progress through the year.

if anyone backed up and restored with Smart Switch, I recommend either factory resetting your phone and starting from scratch or resetting your apps and settings. My Smart Switch backup was killing my battery. And in the day it's been factory reset, battery life is much better.

No root required. Very simple instructions. Enable Developer mode and turn on USB Debugging.

Using ADB AppControl I did the following (My phone is running fine now *See edit*)
(**you can probably delete all of these instead of disable AND some apps with be auto-disabled if they are not used which is nice...)
*Do this at your own risk* And I won't be adding more this thread. I am very happy with my phone.
I did it heavily as my phone was new and if I had to do a factory reset I was OK with that).
*Edit*
- I had to enable KPECore services. It was affecting Automate from acknowledging I had paid for it.
**YouTube - I use Vanced Micro G and YouTube Vanced
**Facebook - Left this battery hog and toxic service long ago.
**Amazon - Reinstalled from Appstore. Just disabled for no particular reason.
*Some of the spelling is off as I used an OCR text recognition from screenshots of ADB AppControl instead of typing each one out manually.
