44 hours battery with 8 hours screen on time, out hiking and kayaking with basically no signal; gps on the whole time. not too shabby and about 6 more hours than expected. just some tweaks, app disabler pro, greenify. expecting another 2-4 hours standby or 45-60 minutes screen time once some tasker stuff is set up and active.

Anyone know if the polycarbonate comes off? I can't handle having a screen protector and my poly is already scratched =\

I'm torn because I really only went active for the extra 1000mah and I can't stand scratches. Screen protectors are never centered and it drives my OCD up the wall.

according to one user it is indeed removable and samsung apparently confirmed it to a user in the following thread. take your time with screen protectors or have someone else do it; mine are always spot on bubble free 100% but ill re-angle it 20 times; im OCD on that plus i have psychotically good vision. i even reapplied my GF's as there was a tiny bubble trapping dust and it was misaligned slightly and occasionally using hers and knowing it would drive me up the wall. also, S7 Active is awesome; battery life is outstanding; 44 hours 100-1% with 8 hours screen time.

i have glass screen protectors over the OEM plastic ones on our two S7A's, but very nice to know its replaceable anyways.

Well if that's the case I'm keeping mine. I can deal with that. If anything, pull it off and add tempered.

Rooting Galaxy S7 Active (G891A)

Hi, I'm new to this thread and only recently jumped back on the android train (been using an iPhone for the past 4-5 years) and I really was looking forward to having freedom again only to find out that the Active essentially is impossible for me to root right now( at least I can't find anything online). I was posting here to find out if anyone knows if there is a method that will allow me to root my S7 Active.
Thanks

Samsung S7 Active....The best worst phone on the market. For anyone who thinks the polycarb is removable better think again. If that helps you to think you bought the right phone, just wait until the screen is beat all to hell...but at least it wont be cracked, right?. The engineers at Samsung need to go back to school.....they're a complete bunch of idiots. I really wanted to love that phone but I had to send it back for an S7 with a pelican 'protector' case. Size wise they are about the same only lacking in battery size and the 'active' button. I'm ranting I know but my ocd doesn't allow for screen protectors.

LOL, that's my co-workers exact setup. BTW, he has a shattered screen. At least it still works for him though hahahahahaha. Good luck with your setup.

If you go and read the article then you will see it is just a regular screen protector for the phone....not the actual polycarb replacement layer. The polycarb aint coming off....no matter how you slice it....

I hear you on that. I think if you can live with a screen protector then it could be the best phone out there.....I just can't. Especially after forking over an extra 100 for it to begin with. Your coworker would have cracked the glass screen protector you have on your S7a as well and probably scratching the polycarb under it in the process.

there are pretty cheap (sub-$5) GLASS screen protectors that work pretty damn good and feel better to touch than the polycarb screen, and are replaceable. identical response characteristics to polycarb screen or regular S7 glass screen. thats what i use.

All you guys who are sooooo sure the poly carb is not removable need to Google search. It comes ff fine and you can put your own glass protector on. The screen does scratch easy but it's just a cover. Rest assured you can replace it. Samsung even offers a replacement.

I just put glass over my polycarbonate, keep Samsung's shatter-resistance and prevent scratches at the same time.

Advanced messaging? Wifi calling? If so, that was pretty quick compared to previous active versions.

Just got mine used and it was scratched to sh*t. came w/ a tgsp on it even though it was scratched underneath lol didn't see the point of that so just ripped out the tgsp and waiting for either Samsung to start offering the shatter screen replacements or I get impatient and remove the shatter screen and just put a tgsp on it. My only concern (cuz I'm OCD lol) is that the shatter screen fits perfectly over the screen so once removed, the earpiece speaker and buttons are raised higher as I haven't found any tgsp that is a perfect fit to cover every nook and cranny (hope I explained that correctly lol). Illumishield's offering come the closest but I'd rather have everything covered except the earpiece speaker and the button area. I dislike having holes for the sensors and front camera unless it interferes with the functionality cuz of the dust settling in those areas.

I believe (at least for the proximity sensor), that you need those holes. The proximity sensor would detect something on it with glass over it like that. And the camera may warp a little, I would think, depending on how good the glass is (which would not be visible from our side, since the screen is close to the glass, but would be visible for the phone since objects would be further away)

Well it already has the shatter screen over it so I assume most tgsp would be fine. I also have a 6p and that one didn't like it when there was a tgsp over it.

All screen protectors are going to have the holes cutout and therefore dust and ocd feelings are going to come into play. I had the same problem when I originally bought an S7A because my ocd doesn't like screen protectors so I had to trade it for an S7 and put it in a lightweight pelican case. At the end of the day the s7's gorilla glass is plenty strong and with the pelican make it almost as protected as the s7a.

Sorry, but that's just wrong. I just got off the phone with Samsung Tech Support and after getting several Tech's involved, for redundancy purposes, they all confirmed that the polycarbonate layer on top of the gorilla glass on the S7 active is not removable, replaceable, or anything else except very very easily scratchable.

They stated emphatically that the polycarbonate layer is bonded to the gorilla glass and it will not come apart without some serious destruction to the phone.

So no....the top polycarbonate layer on the S7a is not removable...so don't count on that when your s7a is all scratched up. Like everyone said on this thread, immediately after purchase put a glass screen protector on your brand new s7a, else you'll be sorry.

One other thing the Samsung Tech's mentioned is that scratches are not warranted and as of the time of this writing, the only way to replace the screens on the s7a's is by mailing them into Samsung repair. The walk-in samsung stores don't have the parts yet....and may never.

Maybe next go around the Samsung engineers will finally get it right. They were really close with the Rugby pro....they just need to implement that kind of engineering into the next active type phone......which this s7a should have been.

If you're referring to this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/mobile-accessories/phones/et-fg891ctebus-et-fg891ctebus/

Then look closer and read completely.....this is nothing more than a regular screen protector.

The polycarbonate layer is completely bonded to the gorilla glass on the s7a. They don't come apart under any reasonable or unreasonable circumstances.

Edit to above: Open mouth insert foot. It looks like I am most likely wrong about the removable polycarbonate layer on the s7active. After even more research and finally just reading the owners manual for the s7active on page 6 it does indeed describe the removable top layer of the screen as being replaceable. The replacement is only going to be sold by Samsung but never the less it will be available sometime in the future. Even though I would like nothing more than to keep going round and round on this issue (joking) I've spent enough time on a subject that evidently I know very little about. Maybe next time I'll get it right. Until then....

Well somehow this person got it off:

Well whatever was there came off, and I have no scratches yet. I am putting liquid sapphire on it soon so scratches will no longer be a concern
Why do you think it is just a regular screen protector other than some guy on the phone telling you that? The description says that it's a replacement screen protector. What would it be replacing other than the factory-installed Shatter-Shield? Why do you say to look closely? Is that because you see that the screen protector design is not the same as the one that's on an actual S7 active? If so, keep looking closer and you'll notice that the picture is not even of a S7 active as the buttons are like the ones from a previous phone.
