I have the samsung s8 (sm-g950F) exynos version and I can't choose in avanced option, there is only 2.4 Ghz.
samsung forgot to add this option on his own chipset/firmware? or it is a hardware limit maybe

Samsung didn't add it to some regions firmware.

I have a 955FD with a T-Mobile USA CSC (The T-Mobile SM-G955U has it) and I have it, I didn't have it on stock.
Interesting, so maybe some CSC firmware for Exynos might have this option...

Honestly I can't understand this regional Samsung policy, there are no restrictions in using the 5 GHz wireless band....

There is in some regions, in the Gulf it is technically not allowed on certain channels if it is outdoors, and a hotspot is likely to be outdoors.

No one actually cares, there is zero enforcement and Samsung is just satisfying the law by simply stripping the option off.

Wifi channels or wireless bands?

Anyway, just since there would be some restrictions in a limited part of the world, IMHO it's a regrettable decision from Samsung to indiscriminately limit all the users in the remaining part of the world....:(
