So , it seems , my reaction to the anandtech review was spot-on. S9 , irrespective of the cpu variants, is still a great device and we must not confuse ourselves with too much information where none is reqd.

God willing, I should be getting my hands on the s9 in early May.
Oh the stories we tell ourselves in order to avoid changing our minds.

S7Edge gave me great battery (6-7hr SOT); S8 and S8+ gave me lower than that (4-5hr SOT). Now S9+ again gives me great battery (6-7hr SOT).

All of them have been Dual SIM models; and yes, I did change phone that often since I had a way to upgrading for a very small price difference.
See, this is what i was expecting, S9+ to give similar performance to S8+ & S7e.

But reading people's reports from India showed some people were struggling. They happen to be quite vocal about it as well.

Here's a reviewer i follow who does a better job with battery reviews than most. Battery reviews are his forte. Yet this is the first time i see him struggling to get a fix on battery with the S9. Battery life on the exynos S9 isn't as consistent as its predecessors. His experience matches user reports

Did not go through the entire video but I had to stop and point this out.
He reviewed S9 Exynos (not S9+), he got around 5.5Hr SOT with brightness set manually to 70% and at QHD+ resolution.
His network strength also seems poor.

Maybe we have a different opinion about what a good battery life means but that SOT is pretty good in my opinion. I used to get 4-5Hr SOT on S8+, a little lesser or almost similar on S8.

You can check the battery endurance I get on this XDA post.

yes S9 because we are in the S9 forum :D

He was unable to repeat that performance his averages were 4h after. The S8 & S7 would average 5-6h consistently on wifi, add an hour extra for the bigger variant. All predictable and to expectations

I prefer to set a baseline first. That is with wifi only as anybody can replicate that kind of behaviour with normal use to within a half hour

Data skews things, unless you have a good signal, less congested network and are on a 3 digit band which is not possible in India. SOT's on data will invariably be 1-2h less than wifi

Baseline for the s8+ is 6.5h SOT on wifi, similar for S7e. Half hour extra is fine

Nobody talks baselines in these battery threads so it becomes near impossible to know what is good or not

Way i look at it is

3-4h mediocre
4-5h average
5-6h ok
6+ good
8+ excellent

No flagship does 8h+, but its possible with 600 series snapdragons

This is under heavy use btw which i define as kill it (down to 5%) in 12h or less run time. FHD resolution because its been shown that it can save upto an 1h SOT compared to QHD which nobody needs on a phone with a screen this small anyway. Heavy use meaning lots of tap tap and screen redraws. Light to medium use won't see as much savings between qhd & fhd

How much time on data ?

If its wifi then you have normal S9+, comparable with S8+ or s7e.,Again this is what i'm expecting but others are having trouble.

After reading more reviews I was finally ready to make a final decision. I settled for the Pixel 2 XL 128GB. So long, Samsung. Been using it since the original S1. Hit a nice deal and am happy as never before.

I've been looking in the kernel section and didn't find a kernel that has integrated the commits the great Andrei submitted with his latest Anandtech article. Do you know of some that do have it?

I got s9+ 7 days before international release date (slovakia, europe) - so after this anandtrch article popped on my chrome suggested articles, i was very shocked. But i hope thst samsung will try to fix at least something - i already got 3 OTA updates and actually battery seems to me better than s7 edge. And even temperature when gaming is alot better than s7 edge. Also - 6 gigs of ram and that lovely stereo sound are great upgrades. Of course, you cannot modify s9+ due to losing warranty which is bigger priority. Also that single core performance is still great.

I havent experience any lag issues on my s9 exynos except to this crappy facebook app , like others said in depends on the user day to day task , whatever you say we cant deny that samsung got the best screen in mobile market atleast they didnt come up with the notch thing" i dont really understand this notch trend :silly:

I got the phone and have played around with it.
Compared to my Xperia XZ1 , the battery life is HORRIBLE, just plain HORRIBLE
SOT without any changes is 3 hours and 20 min compared to the previous 7 hours and 50 min.

If I change the S9 to run on lower settings and screen resolution plus brightness, then I get 4 hours and 40min compared to the previous 9 hours and 10 min.
I play a lot of games, A LOT.

Then lets tell Samsung to fix their s**t. It's laughable.

I am not facing battery problems with my exynos S9+ but it's not up there for a 1000 euro flagship.
Regarding the 9810 issues I am cautiously optimistic that Samsung will optimize the chip in the upcoming months because note 9 supposedly has the same exact SOC, I doubt they want a follow up to the battery complaints.
