I did revert back. I was just hoping to find someone who may have squashed this little bug and shed some light on how others could do the same.

I got it to stop duplicating texts by going into the Messages settings and disabled Advanced Messaging and Share read status. Mine would only duplicate texts from whoever would text me were I could see if they have read, etc.

Edit - didn't solve the duplicate issue for me on my note 8 but thanks for the suggestion.

It wont delete all of the already duplicated texts, but it stops future ones from coming through.
I tested it using my wife's phone after changing the settings. It didn't help me but it was definitely worth a shot. I appreciate the suggestion.
Update! I have officially figured out what is causing the duplicate text messages after updating to the latest messages app.
In the newest releases, like the ones that came on the S9 and S9+, samsung integrated the message service app into the messages app. This, for some, is causing duplicate text messages when receiving messages from people who are on the same service provider who's devices also have advanced messaging with chat features.
To fix the problem of duplicate texts, you will need to purchase and install package disabler pro ($2.50 - don't be cheap...) from the play store and disable message service app and reboot.

That's all there is to it enjoy no longer getting duplicate text messages just as I am.

Shady messages after installing
Hey, just a heads up. After installing this I've been getting some shady texts that have been very accurate compared to calls that I've made. Factory reset didn't fix this either. Yesterday I called my Provider about a bill error and today I have received a text saying to click on a link for a refund, I called my provider and they didn't send any text.
