Here is the guide from 4pda for firmware downgrade :

1. Download the necessary firmware (appropriate version, full or incremental) below the link;

2. Unrar any downloaded file archive;

3. Copy files update.zip and xiaomi_update on the USB-stick not more than 32Gb and formatted in FAT32 format
4. Connect a USB flash drive into the USB-port of consoles:
➾ for Mi Box 3/3 for USA / 3S using a standard USB port;
5. Go to recovery:
➾ Unplug power of the Mibox when it still operate
➾ For Mi Box 3S (remote IR) press and hold the " Home " + " Menu " button on the remote, and supplies power to the Mibox. The process of "firmware" will start automatically (the Chinese hare screen will repair androjda), after finish the Mibox will restart automatically;

I have downgrade to version 1.4.5. It has ADB but USB port can not use when ADB enable. May be some one can find the way to root it

Any update on rooting this MDZ-19-AA piece of c*ap and/or loading customer firmware before I return it to gearbest ?

I have installed leanback launcher and leankey keyboard as default launcher, english language also. I will write guide after i come back home today. Im Vietnamese also :). I do as miui.vn topic and still not root

I've installed leanback launcher 1.1.7 on my Mi box 1.5.4, but i can't launch it. It doesn't appear in the apps.

Will it start after i preform the adb commands ? Or wich version of the launcher do it need ?

Maybe Adb still OFF or your Mibox do not connect to your Pc. Do you use usb cable or adb wifi ?. Which is version of your firmware ?

ADB debugging is on. When i enable it in android settings, its enabled under settings, security in the mi box settings.
I use a cable. When i type adb devices its shows the serialnumber, and i can get into the internal memory, so it's connected.
Software version is 1.5.4. stable

With the adb commands i get:


C:\Android\tools>adb devices
List of devices attached

C:\Android\tools>adb root

C:\Android\tools>adb disable-verity
disable-verity only works for userdebug builds

Did you downgrade to firmware 145 ? if no, downgrade to 145 fisrt then update to 154

    First of all you'll need a usb ( doesn't matter the size! even a external hard drive 500GB work. so no limit for it
    download settings apk. copy it and that's it.
    here there is no bootloader unlock or root. ( useless for this ) no downgrade or upgrade either
    here in 5 minutes your box will be in english with all the needed stuff on it. I've made more than 30 boxes already so trust me i know !
    ohh by the way netflix work without issues! more than 10 shows watched no error shown.

    now follow this steps.

    Sorry I've forgot if you tried any step to unlock bootloader or remove anything please reboot and recovery and reset your box you'll need it factory reset! in order to work as expected

    after that turn on your box

    Go To Settings, even in chinnesse is easy to locate and use
    please pay attention where i have highlighted and only click where i do !

    in settings before wifi we have to disable automatic updates like this

    make sure that you do. this is one of the most important steps. after you do you can connect to the wifi without any issue

    go to your pc and connect a usb or hdd to it and copy Settings apk and aptoide tv and Halauncher ( this one you can download it through Aptoide tv)

    then connect your usb or hdd to your box

    A small window will pop up

    select where i have it highlighted

    select your usb after that

    select settings apk and click ok ( a small window will pop up stating that is blocked) just follow my screenshots and you'll be fine

    after you click will pop up this screen click ok on top

    after click in select the top option and go back to install settings apk

    make sure to select top option even if is not highlighted htt..ps:/../ibb.co/drUxfF

    go back and install settings apk

    even this settings still in chinesse still is easier to follow looks like your phone or android tablet or some other tv boxes

    when on settings select the option under the lock (aka Security)

    select under the lock(aka Security) looks like a a ballon or something (aka Language and input) htt..ps:/../ibb.co/bs9oLF[/IMG]

    select the first option ok and then you'll see english last select and go back ( now settings is in english)

    after that go back to your usb and install aptoide tv

    after aptoide tv open update if necessary aptoide.

    go back to settings apk go to language and input and change the keyboard to aosp english

    go back to aptoide and search for Halauncher and install when done. open ..
    go to settings and launcher settings make sure you check the last two options.
    after that go back to settings apk . and you should see Home option on the left side. make sure you select your new launcher.
    after that go back to aptoide. and download all your needed apps..

    now the hard part you have to remove your usb or hard drive..
    go to settings apk. about and build version 7 times now you're a developer

    connect your laptop or pc to the box with a usb..

    and adb shell

    copy and paste all of this the same as me
    you'll get rid of all the chinesse apps that they're crap

    just type the pm hide not the package

    when you done you can turn of adb debugging or even better developer options off

    if in halauncher you see some app that i forgot just hold ok on it and you'll see the package name.
    so go into adb shell and take them out

    hope this guide help you guys out.. here you don't need to unlock bootloader .. downgrade.. upgrade root etc.!
    and work amazingly..
    if you want kodi or any other app like netflix etc go to aptoide tv and download them

    ohh by the way if you want netflix to work

    go to settings location enable high accuracy . then select date and time and set it up right.
    then go to aptoide and download the second option in netflix the icon have to be small and black background with the "N" in red

    hazme caso yo soy de mallorca.. !

    trust me easier way.. why downgrade to then upgrade to a version that if is user.. will not work a debloater.

    2.PART 2 : UNLOCK BOOTLOADER (NEEDED)​

    Step 1 : Turn on ADB Debugging
    a. Go to Setting> Account & Security > ADB Debugging > Turn ON
    b. If ADB Debugging do not display in Account & Security, go to Setting > About>Model>Push OK 7 times. After that do follow (a)
    Step 2 : Unlock Bootloader
    1. Connect between MIBOX and PC with USB cable (Two male terminal)
    2. On the PC, go to ADB folder "Shift"+"right mouse" and "Open command windows here"
    3. On CMD windows type :
    Code: 
    adb root
adb disable-verity
adb reboot

    Step 3: After restart, go to PART 3 OR PART 4 (Chose PART 3 or PART 4 only)
