I even tried rolling back to Android 7.1.1 and I still can't get the screen or track pad to work with the HP lapdock. I don't understand. I tried using the cable it came with, I tried using a thunderbolt 3...other people have gotten the Razer phone to work with this lapdock...DarkestSpawn here on the forums did but he won't reply back to my messages.

Ugh >_<

I've now just finished tested my fourth lapdock.

It looks like all these issues aren't to do with firmware versions, but the part numbers of the lapdocks... must have different chips inside, even though they all work with the hp elite x3, only some work with other phones.. probably doesn't fully comply with displayport over usb c specs, bit works well enough for elite x3.

I didn't take note of the first lapdock part no. i had, because i didn't know it was going to be such an issue.

I can confirm that this part no. does NOT work with samsung galaxy s8/s9 and huwaei phones, bit seems to work with lg v20: Y7D37PA:ABG
Only could get keyboard working with most phones.
(Sometimes screen would sync but only at very low res)

this model works with s8 besides touchpad not working. haven't tested with other phones: V8H07UTR:ABA

I'm going to try and install a touchpad from the first model into second, though I'm pretty sure its a controller chip that's causing issue

Personally, I've just given up my HP Lap Dock, since the experience grows worse and worse each time there is an android upgrade for my custom ROM. Currently selling it on my country's ebay-like site (it is called "tokopedia", on Indonesia).

It's a very sad thing to do, to be honest, but I found that using an android tablet (I used Tab S3) just gives me better mobility & stability on the same time. Needing to re-attach the cable often because the keyboard sometimes not responsive, or suddenly outputs a non-HD resolution already makes me run out of patience enough. On the latest custom ROM, the touchpad doesn't even work.

And then, suddenly Samsung shows up with Tab S4 with out of the box dex system with their keyboard.
Also, Microsoft Surface Go shows up in nearly the same time as well.
Those two becomes the final nail on the coffin.

I am still using dex-system on my home though, because I do not have a dedicated desktop-PC, so I'm still using my S8 quite nicely.
But, when I grab a Tab S4 or Surface Go, I think I won't use my S8's dex system that much anymore.

If only samsung releases a dedicated Lap-dock like Razer's Project, that would be a game changer. But for now, using a phone, it is just hard for me to treat an HP LapDock as a decent laptop when combined with S8.

Anyone lives in Indonesia that is interested on my HP Lap Dock, feel free to contact me :)

If it makes you feel any better, I was never able to get it to work on my Razer phone.
Sorry to hear that. Yeah, I was really looking forward to using this phone with the HP lapdock since it would have output 16:9 and I wouldn't have those black bars above and below the video displayed, but oh well. It is a really good phone even now, but I really miss using my lapdock and I can't rely on Project Linda coming out at all, let alone if it will even be compatible with the OG Razer Phone since the Razer Phone 2 is coming out before the end of the year. I may just sell it. It's the gold edition one and I put a case and screen protector on it right out of the box so it's in pristine condition. I also still have the box and all inserts so hopefully it'll go for a good price, and I can just put the money I get from it towards the Note 9.

Very interesting! It is probable then that the reason my lapdock doesn't work with my Razer Phone is because of the Part Number, which would contain a control chip that doesn't play well with the Razer Phone. This would explain why only some users have gotten it to work with the Razer Phone.

However, my HP lapdock works great with the S9. In an earlier post (on this thread or another on this forum) I mentioned that right click doesn't work. I figured out that it actually does, through long press or two finger press I can't remember now, and even two finger scrolling works! I'd say one time out of six it will output a funky resolution, but simply unplug/plug back in fixes it.

Yeah. I may just sell my gold edition Razer Phone and get the Note9 since it can output Dex.

Got my Note9 working

Thanks @Xamadeu. I've got the V8H07UTR:ABA and had serious issues on firmware 8.0.11 with the display blinking in and out with my Note 9 . Installed 8.0.12 via the HP Lapdock tools utility (via my Win10 desktop) and all compatibility issues appear to have gone away between the Lap Dock and my Note 9 (I'm still testing though). As a side note, the Lapdock util seems to _only_ be visible from the German MS Store site. for some reason.

Woah, can you share about how to change the MS store to german and how to update the lapdock using win 10?

It was actually surprisingly easy. I just clicked on the link above that @Xamadeu provided from my generic desktop homebrew Win10 Pro gaming system and it installed just fine. Hardware "mod" wise - I did have to plug in a USB WiFi adapter for Miracast to work. Luckily already had one laying around. (Caveat - it did NOT work on an Acer laptop with vendor provided Win10 Home image... Win Store complained about compatibility with the laptop. I suspect it would work with an HP laptop ) If this hadn't worked, I was about to utter more swear words before sending it back to MS.

Updating after getting the app installed was pretty easy. The app pretty well guides you how to connect, and then you click on the firmware link on the left to check for updates and apply.

Thank you so much!

So here is my personal experience.
I own a Note 9 Exynos version. I ordered on eBay an HP Lapdock Y1M47EA#ABE. It was brand new. Firmawre 8.0.11.0. After charging it fully I connected the Note 9 with the USB-C cable included in the box. The Note 9 switched to Dex mode but the screen on the Lapdock displayed nothing. I tried with a P20 pro. Same issue. I thought the problem was the USB-C cable and went to the nearest Apple Store to buy a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 cable. Screen still off. I was able to use it wirelessly with the mirroring mode, both on the Note 9 and the P20 Pro. The sound was coming from the Lapdock speakers. I tried everything to get it to work. Reading other users, it seems that some units are compatible, others not. I am giving up on this and returning it to the seller. Waiting for the Mirabook to be available.

Have you turn on the lapdock beforehand? If so, does the screen turned off after the screen is white?

Yes. I tried all the sequences, same results. Once connected, the Note activate the Dex mode. Keyboard is fully functional but screen is off.
Ouch, I'm so sorry for that... perhaps there is a type that doesn't work or something..

Anyway, are you sure that the unit itself isn't defective? Rather than incompatible, I feel like your problem is caused by defective unit...

Have you tried updating the software?

Can be the unit indeed. I am sending it back anyway. I tried to update the firmware but Microsoft Store didn't allow me to download it as my device was not compatible (!).

Okay, it's nice having a Amazon return policy there... :)

Anyway, I'm curious because you said your audio works while docked.. meanwhile, mine doesn't work, but I have a working 2nd display..
