It should work considering Dex has been unlocked for non-dex peripherals. Only limitation of stock FW and non-dex dock is you can only have, as far as I can remember, 4 opened apps at the same time.
BTW on S8 you cannot set resolutions other than 16:9, and it's only changing active scaling instead of accual resolution.
