The kernel of the installed is playing a role as well, e.g. I see different behaviour when using Siyah kernel and stock Samung. Nxtgen is using galaxsih kernel, which might behave differently. An interesting option would be to flash the stock Samsung kernel (rooted offcourse) on Nxtgen ROM. This one works with XXDLJ4, make a CWM backup before you try pls : http://www.mediafire.com/?zgx6xi9nli3rxno

You can send me a logcat and I'll take a look later on. FYI, I think USB tethering is more important than car mode, because the screen output is being transferred over network using VNC. I think Car mode is used for audio and cutting off access to the home button.

It seems USB tethering is very important. Anytime I turn it off, mirroring ends.

Thanks j0ep0. Appreciate the response.

I did try the NXTgen and the kernel you suggested but no change. Nothing seems to be happening when connecting at all. I did try aLogcat but I am new to this so not sure what to do. I tried enabling tethering too, not change.

I wish there was a way to test without needing to be in the car grrr.

WOW

So I have just read through this entire thread and the new development thread since buying and fitting my 601bt a few days ago. I had no idea that it was possible to fully access the phone menus whilst connected to the head-unit and am very impressed with the work put in by walkeryan and J0ep0. Excellent job guys!!!

So using the latest drivelink update from the MOD thread (don't currently have privileges to post there) I am having problems with crashing, which I know is common due to RAM limitations, my question however is; how long do most people manage to use there phone menu before it crashes? I can browse the main NOVA menu, however cannot access many apps at all. Trying to access Crazy Birds, Facebook or Gmail causes instantaneous crashes. Is this the case for everyone or are you having more luck with connecting to larger apps?

Are there any other apps which anyone would recommend to get to use through drivelink?

Once again, great job guys!! :good:

Could the op update the first post to change my phone from desire hd to the htc one x? thanks :)
Some nice progress has happened recently. I did several programming languages in college a few years back including java etc, really need to get back into it and perhaps become a dev.

Hi all,

Further to my woes, I have established the point at which my Drive Link stops working:

1) reset to stock rom - working
2) root - working
3) install latest TMserver package from CWM - stops working

Any reason why it happens at this point ?

Thanks for narrowing it down, which package are you installing exactly? For Samsung based ROMs, try this:

SamsungTMServer-i9300-XXDLJ5.zip

Also updated CM10 i9300 TMServer package to XXDLJ5:

SamsungTMServer-i9300-XXDLJ5-framework.zip

On the memory/crashing issues, Android Jelly Bean is known to kill apps quite fast, especially background apps. I really advise to change OOM settings or use tweaks like Supercharger V6 or BestMultiTaskingFix.

No, I was using the XXDLJ4 framework that I downloaded last week. Will the above make a difference ? I will need to restore and try again if so.

Does it matter which build (XXDLIH), baseband or kernel version I have ?

If you use a Samsung based ROM, you must not use the zip with framework. It contains the Samsung framework that you already have and the TMServer app is modified to work on CM10 and this causes it not to work on Samsung ROM. Aoplogies for being a bit unclear about it. I'll rename the files ASAP. You might wanna try the top link on Nextgen.

New version of Drive Link released - 1.1.021 (12-Nov-2012).

http://www.samsungapps.com/venus/top...d=000000469052

Interesting. Looks like the new version lets you set any installed app as the default navigation app. Can anyone with TomTom confirm if it works or not please?

Update : Looks like you can create shortcuts to various applications on your phone. Just about to try it with my headunit now...

Update 2 : Crap. Ok looks like the default navigation app and shortcuts get overridden when you hook it up via mirrorlink to a head unit :(

Update 3: Link to new Drive Link apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/66jls0b7yxghusf/app.scm-2.apk

Good news (for me), I have tried the top link XXDLJ5 and it mirror link now works ! I can confirm that the newer version of Drive Link works, as well as the apk j0ep0 posted. This is on NxtGEN version 6.0.

Not all good news though - I cannot get to access other apps, even by trying to hold down home and entering task manager. I find that the head unit closes the mirror link connection.

Testing Samsung JB on i9100

Hi Guys,

Just flashed the Sammy JB to my SGS2 and will do testing with the DriveLink. Will update later.

Edit 1: DriveLink still force closing on SGS2 with Sammy JB. TMServer not built into the release. Hopefully they will build it into the next official release.

Edit 2: Sigh... What is happening. No one communicating on this thread anymore. j0ep0 have you had any thoughts on how to get the DriveLink app to work on the i9100?

Manually installed it onto my Australian Samsung Galaxy S3 4G LTE .....

I installed the Sony 701BT head unit .. I DID NOT update the firmware to the version that apparently allows the support of The S3 ...

Plugged in the phone and Drive link app started automatically ... i then hit the Mirror Link button on the head unit and it worked 100% ......

Thank GOD !!!

and thanks to everyone here that added there bit .. the app and assistance !!

1 very happy user !!

US user: I installed the apk file on my S3 - Verizon. I wanna go buy the Sony 701BT tomorrow. Once I update the firmware, I should be able to use Mirrorlink...can someone confirm this?

Thanks

If you are running the a stock phone it will not work until verizon releases the jellybean update that includes the needed tmserver.apk and the framework that goes along with it. Or you can root and flash the leaked K1 jellybean rom

I am sorry if this sounds stupid (I am pretty sure it does), I am a total newbie with smart phones...is rooting and flashing the jellybean rom safe? Does it void my warranty?

Thanks

    Update 5/5/12
Drivelink has been successfully modified and supports full mirroring!!

All donations are to be sent to the winning dev AuRoN89 via his PayPal address at:
    [email protected]

Also please include your confirmation number so that op maybe be updated and your name crossed from the list!!

For anyone that had a special request such as support for other phones/os, if your phone is still not supported by the modified apk it is your right to hold out on your donation until your request can be reached.

Modified app can be found here:
    http://www.colmoschinxtreme.com/android
Which will also be updated with changelog, comp car units etc

Full screen mirrorlink is now supported in the latest Sony firmware. It is recommended to use this app "button savior" (no root required) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey
To create virtual buttons much like a nexus device to make navigating possible while in full screen mode.

Thank you very much AuRoN89 as well as every other dev that took a stab at this project your hard work is very much appreciated!!!

Update: here is a link to the newest drivelink apk file. Please modify app so that full mirroring of phone is possible onto the indash display along with touch input from display panel.

    Hello,
I bought a new indash for my truck the Sony xav-601bt and it supports mirrorlink technology for gs3. Pretty much the unit becomes an extension of your phone all the way down to playing angry birds on it if you wanted to. However I cannot connect it and after searching and speaking to numerous Sony tech supports that had no freakin clue of what to do I found that Samsung neeeds to release the app for it to be compatible. If anyone has it or runs into it I would appreciate it if you posted it here. Its supposed to be released on 8/29 from a rumor I read. It goes by the name Samsung drive-link I believe. Any help is much appreciated

    I'm on it.

I've done some 6 or so hours of decrypting the code in this app and have managed some simple customization's but I have not yet found the piece that automatically switches back to the DriveLink app when you manage to get out of it into the android operating system. I'm thinking it could be part of the mirrorlink apk that comes preinstalled on the phone. I haven't had the chance to decompile it and look through it yet but I will try to do it tomorrow if someone can post a link to it or PM me, if not I'll just yank it off my phone. I own both a GS3 and the 601bt so I'd like to get this working as well. I'll try to keep you guys updated but my work on this will be limited to a few hours a day since my wife and I just had our first baby.

    sooooo

    anyone tried deodexing stock rom??

Ok I finally got this working the other day on a stock ROM without having to deodex. I used the following script to Odex the TMServerApp.apk to create a TMServerApp.odex for my stock ROM :

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879128&highlight=denied

As there is a problem running some of the commands in the auto script I ran them manually until I found this link which was hidden in the original post :

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31874711&postcount=57

It will require purchasing Chainfire's adbd Insecure v1.30 app as the standard Jelly Bean adbd doesn't allow most of the commands to be run in the Auto Odex script due to more security. Alternatively run the steps in the script manually like I did before I spotted the Chainfire modded adbd.

So now I have a fully odex'd version of the TMServerApp.apk installed and it now works with my Alpine ICS-X8 :)

I will be sending my donation shortly AuRoN89. Thanks for all your hard work on this.

j0ep0 and I are going to collaborate and see if we can get this app tweaked the way we think it was intended to be run. I've setup a Github and plan on trying to convert the Smali files into a jar that can be compiled and easily changed. If anyone would like to contribute let be know in a PM. If you want a link the the github I'll post it up as well once we get the two files out there and are working.
