Hi Guys,

I want to upgrade my galaxy 3 to android 2.2 version but also want to retain my original firmware just in case i want to rollback. I will appreciate if someone can assist me with the steps on how to back it up.

Thanks

In which way you want to back up the orifinal? A back up oft the firmware is not possible in lack of.a custom bootloader which would enable a nand back up. Why don't you just download the original (guess it is JG7) from samfirmware.com?

Edit: there must be a kind of a terminal command to back the old fw up manually. But look if you firmware us available for download. If not, maybe an expert can tell about the the command line backup.

No problem its my pleasure,
Sure you can use app2sd by going to manage application options in settings-->applications-->manage applications
then click on any app and it will show the option of move to sd if that app supports that option. not all apps movable to sd card its a option which app developer has to include in the app.

Hi Guys,

After reading about it a lot and gathering courage i finally upgraded my G3 to 2.2. It has been completed with ODIN and hard resetting it. Once up, i will install applications and update on the progress.

Thank you all for your comments and explanation.

Guys, quick question for which I haven't been able to find and answer yet.

It's written in several places that I should flash to phone without boot.bin and sdl.bin by removing them from the tar file before flashing with Odin in the one file mode. I supposed that it's because if they never get corrupted I'll always be able to enter download mode and reflash. But how about the first time I flash the phone from the original firmware to a new one? Should I flash boot.bin and sdl.bin or always leave them untouched?

Thanks!

Hi to all.

I have Orange-branded I5801 locked to Orange network.
Do I need to unlock it before flashing new firmware?
I saw different info on the net. In some flashing manuals they say it is necesary to remove the network lock before flashing. Other flashing manuals says it is not necesary, and it will remain network-locked after flashing new firmware.
What is true?

Odin Problem

Hi all,
i wanted to flash I5800XXJPB. I followed the steps of this tuto, BUT ODIN doesn't get my phone. I put in downloading mode by pressing VOL+- and Home and Power.
On the screen it shows "android system recovery" if i connect it to my pc, nothing happens. I installed Samsungs Kies, it works with my phone.
Can somebody tell me what to do?

Thx

UPDATE: If i connect usb cable first and then the 3-button-combo, odin recognizes my phone but, then it boots normally. My question is, do i have to press the start button in odin as my phone is recognized or should it normally be stuck in downloading mode?

Download Mode is VOL down + HOME + POWER, without VOL UP. You had Recovery Mode, as the phone was corectly telling you ("android system recovery").

Question: which firmware do I have

Probably a stupid question, but when I type: *#1234# I see 3 things on the screen:

PDA: I5800XWJG6
PHONE: I5800XXJG3
CSC: I5800PROJH1

So, what firmware do I have?

What is the meaning of these 3 above?
