I have a problem. When I flashed from Eclair to JPB everything went well. But know I want to flash to JPF, and when I select the package, the ops, and hit Start, all Odin does is "download cache.rfs" and "reset pda".

What is the problem? Thnx

EDIT: SOLVED, loaded file by file, not the package

I have successfully flashed from I5800XWJG6 to XXJK1 (which is still Eclair).
I am still a little bit hesitant to flash JPB (Froyo).

In some of the previous posts there is mention of 2 issues:

- SMS does not work
- WIFI does not work

Could people who have flashed JPB comment on this? -*- thanks

I have another question. In the tar file there are:

boot.bin cache.rfs factoryfs.rfs logo.png modem.bin Sbl.bin zImage

What is precisely the purpose of each of these files.

I guess boot.bin is the bootloader, zImage is the linux kernel.

But what are cache.rfs, factory.rfs , modem.bin and Sbl.bin ?

Well, I finally found the courage and upgraded to Froyo.

To my surprise, everything was working fine: wifi, bluetooth, gps, calling, sms, ...

I left my phone connected to the logcat to monitor what it was doing.

However, after 2 hours or so, complete freeze. Screen frozen, keys frozen and logcat didn't move. Had to take out the battery to reset.

Phone was rooted.

Then again, first 2 hours or so after reboot everything was OK and then it froze completely again.

So, finally I decided to downgrade to Eclair again. I guess I'm just going to wait for the official Samsung upgrade.

Anyway, thanks to all the people here at xda-developers to do all this nice work and provide the firmwares. Keep going, don't stop, never give up.

Greetings.

I tried to flash my Galaxy 3 using the instructions shown above. However, it gets stuck on the flashing Samsung logo. Currently, I am downgrading to Eclair and seeing if that works, but I would really appreciate if someone could point me to a reason for why this may have happened. I am assuming the firmware I downloaded was corrupt?

did you check the logcat via adb?

This may at least convey some reason why it cannot get beyond the boot logo.

Did your downgrade work?

Hello ,

I have just updated my i5800 to JPF using your tutorial. Everything works fine for now execpt two thing.

1. I can't connect my phone to samsung Kies so I can't restore my phonebook to phone.

2. When I switch do 3x4 keyboard mode I only can input digits, even when I select text mod , it always write just digits instead of letters.

Can somebody help me with this issues.

Thanks,

Vladimir

About the other files...

There's no mention in your guide about the other files that are included in the archive with new FW. I've already flashed JPF and I don't know which files to flash after you flash the first One Package..do i now flash the csc and phone files because when I check *#1234# I've got:

PDA: I5800XXJPF

PHONE: I5800XXJG3

CSC: UNKNOWN

I found thi a random guide for the Spica which said to flash the main package first, then phone/boot/csc in the second flash. (I'd post the link but this is my first post xD)
I was just wondering if using this as a template, I should flash the other files as this dude did?

Yes, I downgraded and downloaded a new firmware file which flashed successfully.

Guess I was unlucky with the earlier file.

First of all, thanks for this guide. I managed to flash froyo on my phone nicely. Only problem I have is that any kind of data services don't work. I think I can use WiFi, bluetooth, make calls, etc. but just regular internet doesn't work.

Now, this is a problem with corrupted EFS right? Luckily I took a backup of that, but I only copied the entire folder with root explorer, so I don't have an .rfs file of it. how can I create one so I can transform it to .tar and give it to odin?

Thanks

EDIT: Now I managed to create that .tar (first downloaded 'sample' efs.rfs and replaced the files inside with ultraiso) and I gave it to odin but mobile internet still doesn't work. Any idea what's going on? Should I manually create that .rfs from my efs files? If so, can someone point out how to pack files into rfs?

EDIT2: The fight has ended and I'm the winner. It had nothing to do with EFS or faulty IMEI, only problem was that the APN (Access Point Name) wasn't configured. Everything works now - thanks again for the guide!

I flashed JPF (froyo) and phone has been working OK for 24 hrs now. Only weird thing is that quite a number of applications just seem to start in the background: gmail google reader, Maps, MP3 ... They start at regular intervals, not by explicitly opening them.

Anyone has an explanation for this?

EDIT: I removed "Advanced TaskKiller" from the phone and checked "ps -ef" command via the adb shell.
Now I don't anymore get application starting in the background.
So maybe this advanced taskkiller app had something to do with it.

Do you still have no problems with that Froyo rom? In that case I'd like to try this as well since I really need that Apps2SD :)

ATK is always not the best app to have free memory for multiple reasons its use up most of your battery and doesnt do the cleanup properly.
You can try using cachemate instead.
