Hi. I'v got TWRP running without any problems on my I8730.

---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:56 PM ----------

Hi,

the I8730 has got two antenna connectors on it's board. They are labled L1 and L2.
Does anyone know what they are good for?
What is the name of those connectors? Hirose U.FL/IPAX?

GPS sucks on this device. Maybe I can enhance it using larger antennas?
- I8730 hasn't got a compass, which makes it lose location in city traffic
- Stock Samsung ROM uses time-servers in Asia. Solved this, but still very often GPS doesn't work at all.

any other idea?

thanks

btw, is there any 4.4 Android out there that solved the NFC problem?

Just Got Phone

I just exchanged my Note 2 for my wife's Galaxy Express I8730. Rooted it and installed TWRP recovery. Did one Nandroid backup which worked showing size of 3.3 GB. After that the Nandroid backup stops and reboots the phone when it comes to backing up the System. Each backup folder is only 10 MB. Why is this and how do I fix this? I've tried searching the net but am still searching. Thank you in advance for any advice.

I am now using Online Nandroid Backup which seems to work fine. I also tried CWM Recovery but it did the same thing as TWRP. It would stop and reboot the phone very quickly. I think there is something wrong with the System partition of the I8730. Using Online Nandroid Backup is not ideal but, at present, it seems the only way I can do a Nandroid backup. Will have to stick with it until I find a fix to the more traditional TWRP Nandroid backup.

I think it is now fixed. I don't know what did it but here's what I did.
I restored a backup made with Online Nandroid using regular TWRP.
When it was done and rebooted I played around with the phone. Then I went back into Recovery by switching off the phone and going into TWRP Recovery using the hardware buttons. Made a TWRP nandroid backup and it worked.
I think when TWRP restores a backup it repartitions everything. I think this is what fixed it for me.

the sensors work poorly (rotation, liniar accelerometer, gravity)

[ROM] CyanogenMod 5.1.1 12.1 baseband: I8730XWAMK1.
StockRoom initially is Vodafone I8730XWAMB7 .
I installed the latest version: 20150804. Anyway the problem was older (Rom 5.0.2)
After a some time testing this build I've noticed that magnet sensor doesn't work at all.
I install apps from the Google Play store. The problem is that the application does not work any type: tool kit, compass, or planetarium.
I think drivers of sensor are the problem . MAGNETIC FIELD: ( 4.0mA ) +1725,36 it is very strong.
Multitasking works, phone work, you can open other applications, compass pointed North Pole wrong, continually oscillating 10-20 degrees. 360 degrees rotation of the phone maintains the same position to the north of phone. Possibly because AOSP drivers?
Linear Acceleration --AOSP
Gravity Sensor ------- AOSP
Orientation Sensor -- AOSP
Try installing applications: Androsensor.apk, Skeye.apk or Compass.apk and say what problems you have.
in Bote Ghy 's Profile-about me, I have attached a photo album with screnshoot with sensors.

I thought this device doesn't have a compass since if you stand still, it rotates randomly.
But according to gsmarena.com it has Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass
Proximity works, Accelerometer... well maybe. Compass for sure doesn't work. Never.

Tested GabeNativ's Compass: works perfectly. Strange?!
Fiv Asim's Androsensor: Acceleration OK, Gravity OK, Gyro seems OK, Light seems OK, Orientation OK, Proximity OK, Battery OK, Sound Level OK,

Then why doesn't the compass work during Navigation with Google Maps?
Have to check if the car creates a magnetic field....

I think I kept the stock rom (because CM does not provide NFC), just removed a bunch of bloat-ware.
Baseband I8730XWANE1
Kernel 3.4.0-1545118
Build JZO54K.I8730XWANE1

What version of CM do you have? 5.0? -5.1.1?
The phone went very well with the stock rom. I'll reinstall the original J.B. 4.1.2. If the compass works, the verdict is given!

I have the stock ROM Android 4.1.2
So in CM the compass doesn't work at all?

I just tried Google Maps again. I stay at a position and turn.
for about a minute it works very precise. But suddenly the compass stops working completely.
This roughly corresponds to the screen going dark before it switches off.
It will not work again until I do the following work-around: switch off the screen, wait for a moment, then switch it on again. This also helps during GMaps navigation.

So, 2013 bought the phone. Vodafone I8730XWAMB7-JB 4.1.2. I installed: GMaps navigation.apk, Compass.apk , SpeedView-GPS Spedometer.apk , SkEye.apk, e.t.c. that works really well.
2013, after 2 months, CWM-CM10 CM11 CM12,-JB,-KK-Lolipop--4.4.4--5.0.2--5.1.1. Same problem observed in all system : the sensors work poorly.
[ROM] CyanogenMod 5.1.1-- 12.1 baseband: I8730XWAMK1.
I installed the latest version: 20150804.
I’ install JB-4.1.2 stock rom to see what happens with sensors!

I installed StokRom I8730XWAMK1. -JB-4.1.2. Are 11 sensors, detected with the application Hardware_info.apk. Everything is working properly.
I installed CM 12.1 I8730XWAMK1. _LP_20150823, and 20150823_express_mod_zip, and Pa_gapps 5.1 pico (uni). There are 9 sensors, detected with the application Hardware_info.apk. Though everything is working properly.

Is there any way where i can find unbranded firmwares? Something like google edition. And if possible a more updated version than the official latest 4.1.2
You can go to sammobile.com, then click on firmware button on top right of the page. Then type I8730 :) Unfortunately, there is no official firmware more recent than 4.1.2 :( but custom roms are avaliable :)

Sent from my GT-I8730 running CyanogenMod 13

Hello, does anyone still has a "GT-I8730_JB_Opensource.zip"? The one in OSRC seems to have vanished
No need, emailed Samsung OSRC and they were very awesome to re upload it there for a small period of time.
