So just be aware also that we will not be eligible for the “Pre-order a Galaxy Note9 from 8/10 – 8/23 and choose AKG noise cancelling headphones or the unique Fortnite Galaxy skin with 15,000 V-bucks, for free—or both for $99.”

We have a 0% chance that they will send out the acceptance emails by the 23rd of this month. They may offer something else after this but this offer won’t happen again. My 14 year old will be crushed that he isn’t going to get 15k Fortnite V-Bucks. This could also be a reason to say no to this survey.

Usually, they renew or offer different free item with flagship phone launch. Maybe we will get something better.

if we choose the unlocked version, are we able to flash/install the t-mobile firmware and then get their usual software updates? or we're stuck with the quarterly updates from samsung?

You aren't allowed to choose the unlocked. You have to select the carrier model of whatever you tell them your carrier is. Then forward your order confirmation back to them.
Why can't you purchase an unlocked device from them? The survey asked if we wanted an unlocked or carrier locked phone. If they give me a 50% code for an unlocked phone then i'm jumping on that. There is nothing worse than having a crap ton of AT&T trash apps on it.

That's new then! I'm not participating if it costs money so I didn't take the survey. In the past ones that I have participated they didn't allow you to purchase the unlocked version.

Remember, unlocked will actually delay your software updates and you won't get the extra features such as WiFi calling on ATT etc... That is unless you decide to flash the carrier version of the firmware anyway.

could you please explain the software update thing more . I would assume Samsung will push out the update before than any carrier

Not for the unlocked model, unfortunately. Their unlocked models are the slowest to get updated. Some flagships have lagged even 4 months in security patches. After public backlash, they agreed to take care of unlocked devices by bundling the security updates quarterly and updating, but it's still a long way behind when compared to carrier models. It's funny that this should be the opposite though.

From what I read, it appears that they need to get all the carrier models okayed before rolling out the unlocked version as it could be on any of the carrier networks. I feel that I had read a Samsung rep stating that, but it would be a hard dig to find the post. The idea being that if Verizon hadn't tested the update, then Samsung doesn't want to break the phones on Verizon's network so they wait until Verizon approves the update (or whomever ends up being the slowest to approve the update for that cycle).

And you lose carrier specific features which can suck for some people...

Seems like a mixed bag depending on the person and the carrier from what I read. Some people are able to activate it, others are not. Video calling, voice over LTE, and WiFi calling all seem to be issues for lots of folks on all different carriers with some reporting that the wifi calling works and others not.

Regardless, just be prepared for issues and if it works okay then great! If not then start digging through here too see what people have tried.
