There is no problem going back to NC5 4.4.2 from NH7 4.4.4. Just remember there is a chance you can end up in a bootloop . I have gone back and forth from NC5 to NH7 and from NC5 to NK4 . I have bootlooped my device a dozen plus times. ( What that means is the devices stalls at boot it just sits there for more than 6 minutes, remember it takes 3-4 minutes to boot up a new rom on first boot up )

Here is a copy of post # 14 First, if your device came with 4.4.4 NH7 it should be possible to down grade to 4.4.2 NC5. However, is the phone new and under warranty ? If so odin flashing back to NC5 won't trip the knox e-fuse, that happens when you install a custom recovery. Here we go, first BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA TO AN EXT SD CARD OR PC !!! ( i.e. pics, music, videos etc.) From my post here is the link for odin https://mega.co.nz/#!oA5xzTAL!LXoVWB...ZlOMSWdRGVX6Uo download to PC desktop. Then go to micmars and download a copy of NC5 here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 It is a zip file so just right click and extract it to your desktop, that will change to a .tar file in a folder. Next extract the odin zip to your PC desktop, and open the odin file as administrator. Now connect your device to your PC via a USB cable. A box will light up in the upper left hand corner COM: doesn't matter what color it is just shows a connection. Now click on the PDA box a new window will open up click on desktop then click on the NC5.tar file to open. Then the file show up next to the PDA box don't touch anything else just click start. Sit back go get a coffee it is going to take few minutes.

Now here is the fun part, if your phone boots up GREAT !!! If it doesn't, and bootloops no problem this common when going back to NC5 it happened to me. Just pull the battery, then reinsert battery, and boot into your stock recovery ( hold the power button, volume up button, and menu button at he same time) once there navigate to factory reset with the volume button and click on factory reset with power button. Finally the phone should boot into NC5, now go to settings/general/about phone and see what version you have.

If you are still on NH7 no problem, it didn't stick go through the process again. Others have had the same thing happen to them, and it took the second time, in the end it's worth it. I WOULD ODIN FLASH NC5 ROM AT LEAST TWICE !!! That way nothing gets missed, then boot into download mode one more time. Make sure your reading Samsung Status : Official then you are running bone stock NC5.

I had all kinds of problems on NH7 and so have many others, I went back to NC5 and have had no problems, I'm going to stay here and wait till android 5.0 (lollipop) comes out. Enjoy !!!

Remember you can always go to the first post here for more info !!!!

What's the rule for flashing roms regarding the baseband

---------- Post added at 11:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 AM ----------

Is it absolutely certain that once you take a ota update, that you can't go back to like NC5 if you take a Later update?

No if take an OTA to NK4, you can always go back to NC5 at any time. You can also go back to a NC5 build and run a NH7 or NK4 baseband. The reason for this is some devices get a stronger signal on different basebands. I personally have done this running NC5 with a NH7 baseband, however I did not notice any change in signal strength. I'm back on NC5 stock rooted, running the Blue Blaze theme for the Priest Punch rom which is based on NC5 4.4.2 which I modified to run on a stock odexed rom.

I just finally decided I'm tired of bull****in and rooted my note 3 successfully yesterday, I tried to root with twrp, didn't work, flashed with cwm, worked perfect, su showed up and I felt goood . now I wanna try to flash a ROM,, so flashing a ROM is like downloading the super su file, download on computer, copy paste into SD card, boot into recovery and I guess wipe the cache and system this time? Then boot into the ROM file?

Trying to root a friend's note 3. It's on 4.4.4 nh7. Do not want to wipe the phone / restore any version. Just want to root it as it is.

Ummm. So I just tried to use Odin to flash both twrp and the cwm recoveries (no not at the same time). Odin gives the PASS declaration and reboots the phone. Then I go to recovery and it's still stock. What am I doing wrong?

Phone has self recovery files on it ....power off phone wait 10 sec enter download mode open 3.07 version of odin load twrp in ap slot or pda wichever one is in odin than plug your phone in but before you do all that make sure in settings to enable developer options by tapping build number 7 times than go to developer options and enable usb debugging than proceed with the above and hit start in odin ....and one more thing is the phone rooted already using oneclick from cf?

Hmm. Didn't know dev options/debugging were needed when all the work is done in download mode.

It has never been rooted.
Ok i would download cf oneclick root you gona have to right click on odin inside the cf folder and run it as admin and put your phone to download mode from powered off state and once again make sure usb debugging is on before you power it off, than run cf autoroot than install twrp i would start with 2.8.1.0 twrp first than download latest twrp in zip and flash it trough recovery

Ummm OK so dev/debug were already turned on from some previous work I did trying to enable tethering a while back. Forgot about that.

Now you are telling me to use cfautoroot and the cfautoroot page says if I have a locked bootloader it will brick the phone.

Like I said I don't want to have to wipe the phone nor reflash the system via Odin.

Also, you said use Odin 3.07.where do I get that. The Mega link in the OP is Odin 3 v1.85

Sorry if I'm being a pain. I am not new to rooting but I am new to sprint's note 3.

OK it's rooted. Thank you sir. Can I just use TWRP manager to install twrp recovery instead of using Odin?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just used Odin. Thanks again for the help.
