Last year i bought both the S21 ultra and the Mi 11 ultra, i planned to kerp whats was best for me, the other one i gave to my wife.
I ended up with keeping the MI 11 ultra which i still have, love it... And when i cant get a functional S22 ultra, i will survive... But still looks after a new phone (i change each year normally). What i would say was, those 2 phones had nearly same size (picture).
lol. Taken with Mate 20X. That was a good phone and a good brand. Shame it got wrecked by the anti competition police.

Agreed, i bought my no 2 mate 20 x 1 month before S21 ultra was released. Its a chinese version 256/8gb made as a global version. 2 days battery time, love it. Honestly, it still kick ass. It was updated around 1 month ago to emui 12.

I have a SD 1TB version, I use my Galaxy watch 4 with this device daily and haven't missed any notifications or calls. I keep phone in pocket on bike rides and watch always vibrates when I get a notification. I've had the watch before I got the phone so I'm not sure if this works be an issue without, I kinda doubt it. No issues for me, Android Auto works perfectly as well as everything else. No complaints.
Thanks for answer. I don't try only vibration mode but bell often don't inform me about notification.
So exynos version (with a lot of power) again is a crap with poor optimalization, worse than for example middle model like A52s with snapdragon.
Only one thing what can i do is waiting for updates because no alternative for Note in EU with full guarantee.
What's more scrolling the same web pages on the fold 2 are smoother where on the S22U i see micro lags.

I'm starting to feel a lot like OP.

Mine is struggling, I believe I've got a defective unit.

Even after the latest updates, it still runs very sluggish with absolutely dreadful battery life to boot. (SD variant, 512gb storage / 12gb ram)

My usage is extremely basic, 80% of the time I use this phone as a media device, music and videos. Rarely take photos or videos. Don't use Facebook, slightly use instagram and twitter. The highest usage social media app is Sync for reddit.

And with this usage on my 9-5, my phone is at <30% by the time I leave work. Just playing music and having videos play in the background. I'm on 5G most of the time, but I have full bars in my area so there is no drainage from switching bands.

I have already factory reset this phone twice, and updated it and the problems persist. I'm gonna send it in for service hoping to get a replacement. In the meantime I ordered a Pixel 5 and it's crazy how much smoother this phone is considering it has a budget processor, not to mention my battery life by the time I leave work is almost at 50% with the same usage. It just makes no sense how the S22U drains so fast, It's not even hot yet where I live.

My S21 Ultra at least used to get me out of work with 40%>. Probably the best phone I've had, never should've sold it.

I'm really hoping I have a defective unit and a replacement solves this, if not I'll just have to sell this thing.
So I sold my S22 Ultra and bought an S21 Ultra for cheap, and right as I did that Samsung started offering $1000 trade in for any condition S21 Ultra towards an s22u, so I went with it.

Ended up with a 256GB in burgundy.

Now this is working the way it should. Zero lag, battery life is about average but now it performs like a flagship.

There definitely seems to be a lottery going on with these devices. Seems like I got a good one for now.

Hopefully the SD 8g1+ is more stable, I'd probably jump to the Fold if it is.

I just saw this comment again, and i couldn't resist for giving you another 3 in 1 mobile picture (my 3rd S22U now, hope it works this time 😁)

Hi All

Two years ago I bought a phone, from a slightly lower end than Samsung - that's what I thought at the time, until I started using the Samsung S22 Ultra 512GB a month ago.

That phone was the Oppo Find X2 Pro 512GB. In two years I never did a hard reset! The phone works perfectly, fast, smooth as butter. However, the power button started to fail, so I started thinking about something higher end, more expensive, twice the price, I thought I would get a phone at least twice as good for that price.

Unfortunately, the Samsung is not better, it is several times slower in daily use. It's possible that in tests, the GPU is faster, but in everyday use the Samsung S22 Ultra next to the Oppo Pro X2 Pro looks like a tortoise (Samsung) next to a rabbit (Oppo).

When using the Samsung, I feel like I'm using a Samsung S7? Even my S9 was faster and ran without stuttering. On the Oppo I have more apps, yet it runs faster even when some of the apps, have cached for two years....

I don't know if Samsung can improve something with updates to make the Exynos 2200 run at least as fast as the Snapdragon 865. If not, I will fix the power button on the Oppo in a month or two and sell the Samsung.

An example of why? Google maps - Oppo any route generates without any delay, Samsung sometimes takes a few seconds or so before the route appears. Aliexpress when I browse product photos added by people, Oppo one swipe appears the next photo, no matter how fast I swipe, photo after photo; Samsung - sometimes I have to swipe 2-3 times before the next photo appears, I am not ready for a complete lack of response when I swipe my finger. Youtube - Oppo no problems, Samsung sound shifted in relation to the picture, by the way on fb videos sound is also out of sync with the picture, I guess phones worth $200 do not have such problems.

Examples could be multiplied. For the first time in two years, I overslept for work because Samsung decided not to turn on the alarm clock and it is completely random. It can't be like that!

I never write posts like this, however the Samsung S22 Ultra is the phone that has let me down the most in the last 20 years, I have never been able to buy, the latest phone, from the "top end" that is much slower than the previous more budget phone that is now two years old.

Samsung - shame... I am very disappointed.

Can someone knowledgeable answer: can they somehow improve this phone by changing the software? Because if not then I'm selling this piece of junk.

Kind regards,
Im on my 4th S22 Ultra.

4th Speaker Static currently.

l will be getting another phone this week. I have had mostly Samsung phone for years. Usually had the Note Series. This was my first S series phone and its been the worst phone, I have had. When it works, its fine, but this Speaker next to the charger port continues to blow. The strange thing is, I dont really use the speaker on the phone during the day, I do watch Youtube videos before going to bed and thsts about it. Im hoping the S23 Ultra is better.

Opposite. This smartphone has been as amazing as anything I've experienced....'cept maybe the battery.

That's one hell of a track record. Samsung's been on a losing streak for 3 years.
Pay less and get the lighter, slimer N10+ snap with much better SOT. It's great for watching vids. New ones can still be had loaded with 10*. At over 3 years this N10+ looks, feels and runs like new although is nearing another battery replacement, the only repair on this phone with over 8k hours on it. What you features lose is offset by up to 1tb of expandable storage.

*if you want Android 13, the N10+ isn't getting it. Screw Google and scoped storage; I'm still running Android 9 and 10 however I prefer my older one loaded with Pie. Security simply isn't an issue.

But if youre used to 120hz the 60hz feels laggy especially with oneui 4 and 5...

Maybe if you are device with this 2 mode yes but in device with only 60 hz isn't problem in my opionion- difference in animation.
Yes, 120 hz felling smoother device but more visibility every, even small lags- read S22U Exynos.

_GRIZZLY_ may be correct; the variable refresh rate displays are much harder to implement and calibrate. Maybe optimized more for use at higher refresh rates.

Turn off all animations. I want to see what is really there. I haven't used animations on PC or Android in well over a decade.

along the years I have been participating here in XDA since my galaxy S3, it is a common thing to see people bitterly complaining about their devices, in all cases , it is a really a tiny ammount of users against a vast number of happy users, my only, only device I got rid of was the note 4, and not because it worked bad or failed, just because it had an annoying "echo" during calls, just that, when I read about some devices behaving poorly, overheating, lagging, etc. sometimes it looks as like the people are talking about some crappy knock off piece of trash, hardly resembling a samsung flagship device, for this, I do not know what to think about, but my overwhelming experience with Samsung top line devices has been stellar, I have ALWAYS bought new carrier distributed devices, even my note 7 performed awesome for more than 3 years until someone stole it

Lol, yeah its static or crackling.

I can get it almost completely gone by puting some clear tape over the speaker. In fact, today I stopped by T-mobile to exchange it under warranty and while there I was explaining to him what it was doing. I removed the tape to be able to hear the crackling sound, and it would not do it. Then after a few minutes he needed some info off the phone and he grabbed it and it started to make the noise again. So, it has something to do with pressure. Doing some searches and there reports of people having issues when flying with the s22 Ultra.

Anyways, I will be getting a new S22 this Thursday, hopefully it will last until the S23 comes out.

I have now the note 10 plus,a S21ultra and a S21ultra.
The note 10 running on the latest android runs fine. It's still a hell of a phone, slimmer than the S22u.
It has a very light green tint on the display when very dim but as a backup phone its good.
Both the S21 and S22 are running the latest software and I cannot complain. Noags, no hickups or any other problem. All are the inferior Exynos versions...
Maybe it's like someone already suggested and that there is a early bad batch of phones out there.

Well that was fast, I was told I would get my replacement phone this Thursday, it was at the door when I got home from work, today. Not even 24 hours when I ordered it.

All is good for now. Im hoping this one will last a little while.

Have to be honest and say when I first got the phone when it was released (Exynos) it was a laggy, stuttering mess and I really didn't like it. After goodness knows how many updates now it's actually fine and pretty smooth and fast and the thermals are relatively ok too. The only downside is the awful battery but that's never going to be fixed because the SOC is fabbed by Samsung, the TSMC fabbed 8gen2 on the S23u should fix that. Overall now, the phone is great apart from the battery.

Why the f*ck this phone price was 1200 euro???
I use OnePlus 10R 150w edition & i think i give it a shot to s22 ultra 908B unfortunately with exynos creap..
10r is faster in any & every way. This chinese phone for 400-450 euro is 10 milion times better than s22u!
s22u it takes a whole minute to play a short video reiceved in whatsapp. Same to open a video on youtube.
Is my phone (s22 u) broken?

Not sure if it can be completely "fixed".
Android 12 is no gem to start with. GOS fixes are on the way. ADB edits can also be used to tone it down. Not sure if Package Disabler is functional on this model though. It, like it's predecessors definitely needs something like this.

Compared to the Note 10+ the S22U sucks; much poorer form factor, no SD card slot*, that 108mp cam sensor has hype gimmick written all over it. The N10+ gets better SOT with a much smaller battery.

I'm not impressed and rejected the S22U and for that matter the N20U and S21 because of multiple deficiencies and/or issues in spite of a "better" hardware packages. Drop the ball Samsung... and by the way Sammy right handed people hold this huge phone in their left hand.
    What were you thinking?

*with no .5-1tb V30 SD card these new phones are a god awful terrors to use and backup. Even when using a SD card as a data drive, backing it up can be a tedious business. Having the redundancy of the 512gb internal memory to make temporarily a backup folder helps prevent backup mishaps in conjunction with the SD card.
That's fresh in my mind because I just did it; you can never have too much SD card memory or "scratch" memory to play with. $hit happens, one corrupted file is all it takes🤣 If I had to use the PC to do what I just did it would've taken at least twice as long. No SD card slot, No sale!!!
The N10+ with 1+tb of storage still rocks it...💋
    6
I know what you mean...a phone for over 1300 should be as good as passable... hope Samsung fixes the problems with the exynos... it cant be true
    6
    You are sure? Nobody complained?

"Nobody" is obviously an exaggeration to point out that very few people complained. Of course some people complained but it's minority

This thread is 34 pages of the same people discussing, I don't know if we can see how many people participated to the thread and among those how many actually participated to complain about this specific issue (speed) but it's probably low
    6
Take a step back and look beyond the technical issues with the S22 Ultra.

Ice Universe, a respected leaker for Samsung devices stated there's quite a bit of finger pointing among Samsung's executives and for good reason.

The GOS debacle isn't over even though an update allows users to disable it. Geekbench pulled the S22 and S21 from it's performance testing module. That was a very shady move on Samsung's part and the delisting is well deserved. Samsung probably isn't too disappointed since the S22 struggled to keep up with older devices.

It's widely rumored Samsung Korea in conjunction with local service providers slashed prices 50% due to declining sales over GOS concerns. Think about this, on March 31st you pay full price for your S22. The next day you see it's price has been cut in half but the seller isn't offering any relief. Amazing neither the retailers or Samsung took that into consideration.

Then of course there's the Class Action Lawsuits. Samsung will be on the hook for millions, maybe billions but those affected won't have much coming their way. Likely $20 to $50 bucks in a year or two.

Then there's Samsung Foundries losing it's two biggest client's, iPhone and Qualcomm. Samsung really struggles making chipsets, we don't need to look any further than Exynos to verify that.

Lastly, who's heading up Quality Control in the final assembly plant in Vietnam? This individual is charged with insuring the devices which land in consumer's pockets and purses are for the vast majority trouble free. Samsung needs to hunt down this clown and make an example out of him.
