Any one get some yet? I have but I'm having trouble programming them, it keeps saying unable to write, or un able to read and after a bunch of times trying it, it finally programs it but then to scan it it takes lots of tries also, it keeps saying empty tag, was wondering if any one is having issues with them as well,
Thanks

i have been using mine just fine, occasionally i get the empty tag error, i figured out that the phone needs to be flush with the tag, then it reads it just fine. the error seems to come up when the phone cant properly read the tag,
other then that they have been working flawlessly

To answer your question right away... No, I don't have any.

Sorry if the rest of this gets a little bit off the topic of programming/scanning issues... this seems to be the only thread discussing these things...

I just learned about the existence of TecTiles today. Came across it in Engadget's review of the Sprint/AT&T variants when I was looking for a picture to use in another post.

I'm pretty excited about them. I can see myself putting 1 beside my bed, 1 in my car, and 1 on my desk at work.

I have a couple questions for you guys about these things:
  • The Samsung description page lists all the sorts of things they can do, but doesn't say whether you can do composite actions with them (i.e. Set a volume profile, set an alarm, and then launch an app). Can you do that sort of thing or is it just a single action?
  • Can they be used to launch something else, like a tasker profile (which would mean they can do pretty much anything), or just the specific things it says?
  • Lastly, the last guy said the phone has to be flush with the tag to read properly. I'm planning on buying a proclip mount for my car and hoped to just stick the tile right on the flat part which would be right behind the phone (see picture)

Do you think that small gap there would be a problem?

EDIT: I just discovered this on the Samsung website: "Sensitivity: Up to 2cm Operating Distance"
Some of you who are having scanning troubles may be interested in that figure. For me, It seems I'll have to do some testing before I stick it onto that car mount.

I was trying to scan it with out any case and still have the same results. I'm using a clean silicon case that's real thin, but I only get that error and stugle on 3 of them, the other 2 I dint have any problems, but I haven't stick them no where yet, but if you do decide to stick them, make sure it's not on a metal surface or else it won't work.

Another question is

Are you using the tactile official app? Or nfc task launcher?

1) Yes you can string things together. I would recommend NFC Task Manager
2) Yes, you can do this with NFC Task Manager
3) Sounds like a good idea.

I find them overpriced, and since they are just standard nfc tags, I'd recommend ordering from Tagstand.com instead. Their starter pack is just $14.25 for 15 tags, plus they work just fine with the Samsung Tectile app...

I wish I would of seen them earlier, I would of got them instead, but I'm going to try and use nfc Tasker instead to see if it works better

No problems for me, they've been working great and were easy to program.

I actually put some on the underside of the table by my recliner and my bedside table. I wasnt sure if they would work through solid oak and a TPU case but they do :) I have them in car dock and on desk at work also.

I had no problem using the samsung ap or the nfc task manager.

I ordered some of the Mifare tags off eBay after I saw they worked fine in youtube videos. A 10 pack was $10.20 shipped but will have to wait for them to show up.

they work fine with my phone but i found nfc task launcher to be better for programming and in general.. you can program more things like combining launching apps and settings etc, and also having one tag toggle between 2 different program sets such as car and home.

Also if you are having issues writing or reading.. make sure to hold phone steady with center of back of phone over tag, and also dont move for about 5 secs. even after it beeps as it is still reading or writing the tag after the beep.

I'll give that a try, I always moved it and tried it over and over, thanks

+1 for NFC task manager, the one i use the most is on the side of my wireless headphones, it activates and connects my Bluetooth and activates my music player(when i'm leaving to catch the train). when i tap it a second time it deactivates all those things and connects my home WIFI and turns on the vibrate setting. The combinations are plenty...a true lazy mans toy!

i bought official tectiles last week when I got my T-Mobile S III, and they have been working flawlessly with Samsung's TecTiles app, as well as with nfc task launcher

I also bought a bunch of 88cent tags locally here in Seattle and they also work perfectly.

I did notice on one website that sells NCF tags that they say "some tags may rarely come dead on arrival" so try another tag. Its unlikely all 5 are dead.

these are the tags I bought
https://www.nfclabels.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=63&product_id=63

SO much cheaper than Samsung's $3/each

Ok at first I thought this was just a gimmick so now I have a question

Can I program the textile to turn on the Bluetooth and open an app such as ituneradio? If that is possible that would be AWSOME as it help me a lot on the motorcycle...

Thanks

yes, you can do that, super easy

however, you have to have your phone on and the screen unlocked

i wonder if there is a work around for that

also, the NFC spec says NFC can work up to 0.2 meters, but your phone will need to literally touch the tag. hint: aim for where the battery is (i kept aiming for the camera area, like a noob)
