Are you asking for a sub forum thread in here about rooting?

yeah...or just modify the first post to include any info, ROM's, tricks etc that we find while development for the SC-04E starts to grow and continue....being a Japanese variant , most development will start off in Japan, written in Japanese....and it helps to have a thread like this to pool together what we find and make it easier for loads of people...take a look at that thread i posted earlier for an idea....

OK I got my phone today, now what?
I hate the new data plans, just setting up my phone used 500mb in data alone today.
So I found a solution that works without rooting the phone to help us former "unlimited-plan" users still think we are on an unlimited plan.
It's super easy but, unfortunately, not free. Most of the Android users I know already know about this app.
Basically, I set it to automatically turn on the WiFi and connect to your home network without using GPS. And also when you leave home it shuts WiFi off and puts you back on data.
One you learn how to use it for one location, you'll start doing it for every location you go to that has a free WiFi connection (i.e. - Starbucks, etc.)
If anyone gets the app or already has it, let me know and I'll post further instructions

But well worth the $2.99.
Haha Already 500MB! Couldn't wait till you got home to use on your WIFI I guess ;)
I've been meaning to get Tasker for some time, I usually end up finding an App which covers what I want to do but the tinkering aspect of Tasker seems worth it. With the new plan I noticed docomo automatically signed me up to their "docomo Wifi" service and this is now free (normally 315Yen).... the SSID's and passwords were provided in one of the 10 or so sheets outlining the new contract conditions/services/payments etc, this will help save some bandwidth, noticed it was alive in the subway and apparently its setup at 106,500 locations in Japan (128,300) access points.... not bad.

I was just wondering how much it cost you guys to upgrade? I am about 6 months into my contract and have the SC06D

thanks!
for me it cost 2100 yen which would be on my next month bill...from how its explained to me, your paying for your SC-06D (i assume) in addition to your bill....you might be getting a nice discount depending if there was a special, or if you switched using the MNP program....iin order to get the SGS4 you would just sign an agreement to pay for the phone over a 12 or 24 month period...so you would be paying for the reaming 6 months of your SGS3 plus the monthly fee for the SGS4....you can always go in and pay the SGS3 off in a lump sum...i wasnt required to sign a whole new contract...so instead of paying around 1900 yen a month...i now pay about 3000 yen for both phones and im going to just pay the SGS3 off in a lump sum...hope that helps....

Trying to figure how to automatically connect on a moving train will be a challenge. I set Tasker up based on the cell tower closest to my home and I'll do it for all of the places I go to teach also.
But keeping Wi-Fi on that much is going to be a trade-off, data waste or battery drain.
I'm going to try and stay stock as long as I can and get this phone leaned out of the bloat ware.

UPDATE: Looks like the phone uses the bml partition drive, which is a lot more difficult to pull

Thanks for this thread.

Could someone let me know how much you have to pay for this monthly? The basic minimum.
I'm currently on Softbank and thinking about MNP'ing to Docomo. I heard they give quite a discount when MNP.
Unfortunately my Japanese isnt good enough to get information from them regarding the monthly charges.
I just want to know how much I'd have to pay monthly basic (no phone calls or data usage).
I'm debating whether I should buy an international one and use my Softbank SIM (I've expired my two years on this so I pay around 2500 Yen monthly) or go to Docomo. If I go to Docomo I'm stuck for two years atleast. If I get a unlocked one I can always sell it get another one. But wondering if there is a big financial benefit. If I buy an unlocked one its gonna set me back about 75K Yen.

Thank you.

in my opinion, you should get the international version if you really dont want a contract....it may not or may play well with the cellular bands here...do you research first...you are going to be paying for the price of the phone over a 24 month period if you switch to Docomo...they do give you a nice big discount which means you may only end up paying half the price of the phone, but be locked into a contract....i wouldve bought the international one if it wasnt for the fact I still got time on a contract so just adding it to my bill wouldnt bother me...more support for the international version...for now, lol, till we get this thread really up and moving...they do give you between 20 to 30k yen for switching, so that just may off-set your costs....to each their own, i cant quote you a price...depending on the customer, everyone can be a little different, with the add-ons and such....

Thank you.
30K-40K is quite a discount but I think I will exhaust that discount with the basic fee for the data access.
Currently I rarely use cellular data. I'm mostly within a WiFi and have a WiMax modem I take when I go out. So having to pay for the basic data will offset most of the discount I get. Currently I pay only about 2500 Yen monthly (inclusive of White plan charges and small call charges. Most of my regular numbers are on Softbank so call charges arent that much). But if I move to Docomo I I guess I will paying in excess of 4500 Yen monthly (without any call or data charges).
I think its a matter of shelling out 75K at once for the phone vs. paying it monthly.
Plus all the bloatware in Docomo handsets are a dealbreaker too.
Thank you for the info guys.
