I think we can install custom recovery using mtk tool. Although this app requires root. You can get root access on Android5.1 via kingroot. Try this method hope this will work

using kingroot or kingroot is not recommended -by me at least as of the researches I've done doesn't show that kingroot is safe to use

I am sure flashing custom recovery needs unlocked bootloader. Have you checked your Lenovo a7000 bootloader status after flashing custom recovery.

Still no methods available for unlocking bootloader and root for Lenovo k5 note and no custom recovery available for k5 note

MTK devices are flashed using sp flashtool therefore locked and unlocked bootloaders would work on it.

Unlocked bootloaders are needed to flash through the fastboot mode

or the k5 + forum which have some cool roms that may be completable with your device https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-k5/development
check the titles it must say k5/k5 plus or something like that
don't try them except if the developer says it works, read comments to know the rate of success before flashing.
