Guys, I finally got a, acceptable reply from Asus. The first several were of the "no problem found" variety. I kept referring them back to this forum and the Youtube video I posted. It sounds like they at least finally understand what people are complaining about and it MAY improve with the next firmware release (we will see).

Response from Asus:

Sorry for waiting.
I just got their reply.
They informed me that our new image will improve the issue.
Please wait for next fota update.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your kindly understanding and continuous cooperation.

Once again, thank you for choosing ASUS products.

We just received the new update. Does anyone see the issue resolved? I can't really tell. One thing I do notice. If you click on automatic brightness it sets itself to outdoor mode!? WTF?

I've had the new FW for only two days, but I'm still seeing an issue (although it seems different) if I have Smart Saver turned OFF (and reboot). HOWEVER, with Smart Saver turned ON, the "micro" or "step" dimming seems gone. I went into Power Settings and set Custom with different brightness levels for each application type and tested for several hours. If I have Web set to 80%, for example, the screen dims when I click on the browser icon (it dims before the app opens) and then it stays pretty constant while using the app. Switch to another app and the display adjusts based on the setting. I unchecked all the app dimming options and the screen seems pretty constant. This is only two days of testing, but unless something pops up over time, I think that Asus did a reasonable job fixing this problem in this new FW.

So basically.. what do you do on your end to have a consistent brightness across the board?

Not sur it solves then problem. Brightness still changing a little. But less than previously. It becomes usable.
Perhaps it has nothing to do with this update.
