Screen is blinking. 1 second on, 1 second off. What's going on?

My Android device screen is blinking, 1 sec on, 1 sec off (completely black screen) and it continues to blink forever.
Even if I restart the phone by holding volume up/down it's still blinking in the recovery menus.

It just started doing this for no reason at all, I didn't change any setting.

I have tried to clear cache.
Tried different screen brightness settings, disabled auto brightness.

My phone model is Ulefone Armor X7 PRO.

Maybe the Android kernel is crashing.
Factory reset. (if this works it was likely a 3rd party app, possibly a virus or rootkit that caused it). Be careful what you load.
Reflash rom if that fails.
If all that fails to work or if it reoccurs it may be a hardware failure.
