Screen on/off by magnet

While using Google's Duo with the wife on top of a 10 foot ladder, the screen kept going off randomly. Long story short, when phone is held in portrait, and the bottom left area comes in close proximity of a magnet (like one on top of some ladders) the screen will turn on or turn off. What accessory would take advantage of this function?

A case with a cover.

That other brand, cough Samsung cough have cases with a magnet to turn on/unlock the phone when u open it.

Umm....many smartphones turn off with a magnet cover.

The official HTC case has the magnet in it, albeit it's tiny and weak so doesn't always work.

I actually ordered some .3mm thick magnets (e.g. razor thin) and works great and can tape/insert/whatever to any flip case.

Think it'd slide into the card slot on the case?

It does but that slot doesn't go down far enough by default. You can coerce it to open further and then slide magnet down, yes.

I noticed this with my new Nexus 6 and tested it with a small refrigerator magnet. The sensitive spot is in the center about 5.5 cm below the top (approximately opposite the "M" logo. The phone goes to sleep when I place the magnet, but it awakens on its own after random times between 10 and 20 seconds. I wonder if this is why the cases that used this feature apparently have been discontinued. I had become used to the automatic control of my old Samsung Note 4 using the official Samsung case, and it would be nice if this would work on the Nexus.
