thats just ace. installing stock Oreo now. coming from inconsistent SOT on a bunch of custom ROMs ranging from 3 - 5hr SOT but averaging on the lower (3.5 - 4hr) sides.
day 1 was 3.5 hr SOT and 10hrs total usage before phone conked out. atrocious doesnt even begin to define it but this is day 1 and I am going to let it settle this week. also read a tip here recommending "keep mobile data always on" be turned off under developer options. done that and will monitor day 2's cycle.

Like I said before, depends on usage, this time was a bit disappointing but made sense.
I was trying to store all of my image onto Google Photos so I had to download and upload a lot from various online storage.
And I have been trying other launchers out so installing and uninstalling apps.

As to how I got that 2 day battery with 5 hrs SOT.
-> Battery saver was set on medium. No AOD and background data. CPU limiter on and -10% brightness.
-> I use Samsung Internet to browse social media because optimization and no background data.
-> GPS set to battery saving mode.

This time around I didn't use Battery Saver.

My battery has gone to crap lately. It's following the same pattern as my S7 and Note 5, except this one lasted an extra three or so months before it started deteriorating. I used to be able to get 5h+ SOT over 20 hours, now barely, despite having just factory reset.

FHD+, 4G, Location on, barely have any apps. (Insta, SC, Snapseed, VSCO, Uber, pretty much it). Patiently waiting to see if Oreo can fix it, if not Pixel it is.

When I first picked up my Galaxy S8 in May 2017, the battery life was astonishing. I am a heavy user and I received 7 hrs 20min on the very first charge. My previous phone, (which sadly got stolen), a Galaxy S6, could average 3,5hrs and the best I ever got was 5hrs and 5min on lowest brightness.
Therefore I was pleasantly surprised with the S8. Couple months in and after a few updates the battery started getting worse. Started averaging 4,5 to 5hrs instead of the usual 6+ hours. So I downgraded back to the software that it had from the box via ODIN and boom!! Back to the usual 6 to 7 hours!!
Fast forward to yesterday when I did the Oreo update and the battery is now terrible! 15 mins of SOT dropped the battery by 20% after I just installed it. Seems to have stabilised now, but I'm currently on 16% from a full charge with just over 3hrs SOT. Oh yeah, and the phone gets super hot. Will give it a week, if no improvements I will have to downgrade back to Nougat.
which version of update you use to have 6-7 of sot ?

Yup, you have the same problem with Samsung´s phones has i do.

In the beginning around 5h sot easily, a couple of months ahead i barely make 2.30h Sot. Since my S4 its the same problem (and i had it all).
The good news is that i already thought on a solution: I don't even care about S9... My next phone won't be a Samsung device!

Try with no gapps no chrome uncheck appmeasurement and firebase services on ALL apps, remove samsung's bloatware and aod...
See the difference. (I get 6-7 hours SOT on AQL5 with oreo Crap rom)...
How to uncheck appmeasurement and firebase? Where is that setting?

I have had a pretty terrible run lately. I barely get 3h of SoT, here is an album of my settings : https://photos.app.goo.gl/bk7QtzvBzOQ9hKhC3 (S8+, FHD+, Oreo)

Does anyone know what is wrong with my phone? Except watching a 20 minutes DBS episode this morning, I have used it only to send messages (Facebook messenger - I know it's a battery sucker but my GF loves the stickers ... Lucky me).

I would appreciate any help, I love my phone other wise

This is exactly what I was looking for, this confirms that Samsung never really fix the battery problems that pleague all Samsung devices,

Galaxy S2, replaced the battery twice with in 1 year, got rid of the phone after the S3 came out.
Galaxy S3, replaced the battery after the fist year, phone would go in a boot loop after it got to 30% battery ..
Note 4, replaced the battery twice with in the fist year.. phone would also go in a boot loop after it got down to 20%
Galaxy Camera, the battery compleatly died with in 6 months, I think the Note 4's fast charger killed the battery..

One of the big problems is Samsung using low grade battery's and the quick charger is probably killing the battery faster. I still have the Note 4 with a new battery and it's been fine since I don't use the quick charger, I normally slow charge at 1.5 amps over night and the phone is good for the day..

My main phone has been a Huawei Mate 8 for over 2 years and the battery is just starting to fade, I still get 1 day on a charge, Unplug at 8am, I usually still have 40 to 50% round 12am, I work in IT, so I use tones of different apps,VoIP mail, what's app, Skype, telegram, Microsoft teams, slack, line, i play the same 3 games almost every day.. plex drains my battery pretty quick if I forget to close it after I'm done listening to music.

The reason for me writing this is because I was thinking of getting the S9, but I think I'll just replace the battery in my Mate 8 and use it till it dies, it's fast enough for what I need it for.
