Screen on time

Seriously, I've never understood how these people get these crazy 6+ hour screen on times. Maybe if you have zero apps installed and don't use any of the messaging apps that make a smartphone worth having. I've never gotten over 4 hours screen time with an Android phone and I use pretty minimal brightness settings and turn off 90% of app notifications. I know that Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram are supposed resource hogs but what's the point of having a smartphone if I can't use the most popular apps.

So, people with super long battery life, what are your tricks? Are you actually using the phone or just trying to see how much battery you can get?
Honestly man, the people saying they're getting 6-8hrs sot are probably not using their phone at all, and when they are its either for hours and hours in one go, doing very very light things.

A 6.3" HD screen, 6GM ram, 3,300mah battery is not going to yield great usage. I would expect nothing more than 4hrs on average.
Pandora, web browsing, texting, phone, asphault 8 airborne, flyclops domino, camera, palabre rss reader, youtube, some rounds of 8-ball pool etc.
I don't use auto-brightness because I think that's a waste of battery as it actually use more and unnecessary power than to set it at a comfortable brightness. i don't enable diagnostics and the like.
nfc off, Bluetooth off until i'm going to use it for calls or music, i don't enable the weather connection because I can check that whenever I need to it.
I use the Samsung browser because it's faster and uses less battery than chrome, dolphin and firefox (at least that's what I've noticed)
I don't enable things that's going to drain my battery in the background or keep my device from sleeping while i'm not using it, my battery is supposed to be there when I need to use and not to be drained in the background while i'm not using it, at least that's my philosophy. so if you believe i'm not using my phone then that's what you believe, i know that i'm using my phone the way that works for me and it's been going great for me so far.
on the 15th I'm going to exchange my note 8 for a different one because my screen have a red tintish color thing going on, which i can live with but i don't want to because I paid a lot of money for this phone man....but hoping i get another phone with great battery life too. enjoy your phone man and use it how you want to use but i don't think it's cool to say others aren't using their phones. if you're a power user then put the apps you're not using to sleep that way you can have your battery to use for the things you want. the battery saving features are there on the phone for a purpose, use them.
just my 10 cents.

So what do you think these people are doing with their screen on for 6+ hours? I don't understand your theory. Screen on is the largest battery sucker anyway, so literally doing nothing with your screen on is a HUGE drain regardless.
I can say with experience that using the phone at its lowest brightness and doing stuff as simple as browsing and video playing that you can achieve some insane screen on time over a full day, and on the other hand, playing the highest demand game for 5hrs straight can also yield similar screen on time, since the phone has had no time to drain while idle.

A good example of this was when I did a battery test on my Note 7, I maxed out the brightness, played a YouTube video in the background, had flash in (yep) the entire time ALL WHILE playing GTA. Got a total of 6hrs 2mins and that was completely in a row. I was just super curious if I could legit pull off a 6hr sot at absolute Max demand.

On the contrast, I wanted to see what kind of SOT I could get if I just viewed a black image, entered airplane mode and left the phone on the entire day. Came back to it a day later and managed 18hrs SOT.

5.5-6 SOT

Ive got it every time. AOD on ,wifi Bluetooth, heavy messaging and social media. Screen on 50 percent. 70 apps on phone.
If I'm not in wifi 4 to 5.

Anyone can have 8hrs of screen on-timewith power saving mode...smh.....next!.. try without it at all till 0% do you part
Well here you go. Working all day no power saving at all. Messing with the phone for at least an hour today trying to set up printing by downloading and deleting app after app, and still don't have it working. A few reboots due to trying to get advanced calling to work, and that finally is. 7 hours screen time, with top setting on screen, streaming 4k at some point, making calls all day, tons of texts and emails, so I don't know what you are doing different but that's my results (and I have about 120 apps installed) and still 4% left.

WQHD 2960x1440 resolution all day, Snapdragon its on Verizon built in Korea. I forgot to mention that's with being connected to my Gear S3 as well. I have a dark theme as you see cause I just don't like the bright white on my settings and all and running it all on Nova Launcher. As far as bloat, I have the following disabled, but I'm not sure how much these help to be honest;
BBCAgent
Carmodestub
Cloud (vcast)
DT Ignite
Dual Messenger
Yahoo Finance
Gear VR Service
Gear VR setup wizard
Google VR services
Hum
Message +
NFL mobile
Samsung Setup Wizard
Yahoo Sports
Verizon Support and Protection (not sure If I should keep that)
Verizon Location Agent
Weather (not really sure what this is used for anyway, when I ask Bixby the weather she still tells me the weather so IDK)

I'm not set on any of these, if someone can tell me why or why not to disable some of these I would probably switch it, but so far I haven't noticed anything not working properly. I asked in another thread what's a good list of things to disable but for the last 3 to 4 days I've been slowly disabling things I don't think I need.

Well I'm totally done, like FOR REAL IM DONE! with the crappy device, maybe mine is defective? i can't even scratch 7hrs of screen on time territory.. today is my fourth day with it, ill probably just return this POS...mind u i was on 1080p resolution!!!!! This isn't fair... 6hrs of screen on time doesn't justify $930 plus taxes... = $965 + $40 tmobile screen protector = $1005.....just doesn't justify...... I'm really aggravated with this device! I don't even watch 4k for god sakes...! All ido is whatsapp and Instagram... And YouTube barely....smfh!

I heard chrome uses more battery then the Samsung browser. Maybe that's part of it? It's an amoled screen too so if you have more black you save on battery that way

Coming from a note 5 I'm very pleased with battery life so far. I didn't charge for almost 24 hours. Resolution maxed. Greenify. Wifi, bt, etc on all the time. A Pebble time connected and fitbit Alta. Only a few bloatware packages disabled and SW updates disabled. If I ran Netflix on a full charge I would get at least 8 hours sot.

If I'm reading those screenshots right, your screen was on for 6h 03m but your phone was on for nearly 31 hours since it was last charged. Sorry, I just can't see why you're complaining. I compared your stats to the other stats posted in this thread and yours were comparable, if not better than what other people were getting. I don't think your phone/battery is defective; just your relationship with reality. I would consider 6 hours screen on time out of a total of 31 hours between charges to be pretty damn good battery life, but maybe that's just my reasonable, realistic expectations getting in the way of a good whinge.

I Just wanna be able to hit 7hrs of screen on time with 2k resolution like the other guy, i just removed chrome... honestly dont think it'll make any noticeable difference but we'll see i guess. Just think.....6hrs is only a quarter of a day, so i can only really use my phone for 6hrs of the day and the rest is idle time? Jesus....[emoji32]

Also in the Samsung internet browser you want to install its adblock plus extension so ads don't use up power either.

I don't know what else to say man, you might have a faulty device or something is burning through your batteries....Maybe try heading to a T-Mobile store on the 15th and try getting an exchange if you don't feel comfortable or do a return

Edit: I disable the features I don't use or not using at that moment like nfc, wifi, Bluetooth, location, GPS. I don't leave demanding apps running in the background for too long either because I don't believe android puts them to sleep.

There's nothing wrong with your phone. You're just a drama queen that likes to complain. Your phone was idle with the screen off for 25 hours out of the 31 hours the battery lasted. You could've got 7 hours SoT but you only used the phone for 6 hours with the screen on. Not sure how that's a fault with the phone. If you want 7 hours of SoT, use if for 7 hours with the screen on. If you can't manage that, then you don't need 7 hours of SoT.

Dude seriously? Drama queen? I've used this phone with less idle time and more screen on time and i got a worse score thanks for nothing...now i have less screen on time with less idle time...smh its my 5th day I'm just gonna return this faulty garbage...i probably have a lemon. When life gives you a lemon...you take a hit on screen on time.....now I'm screwed!!!! I hate my lifeeeeeeeee why me...btw i put it on 2k resolution I'm sure that took a toll but it didnt take a toll on the other user with 7hrs of screen on time and he had 2k resolution on (so he says...[emoji57] ) maybe he was just trolling?

This!!!! I've always felt that way, just thought i was going crazy...I've always felt like disabling bloatware can cause more harm than good for some reason. And I've disabled abunch of stuff to free some ram, i wonder what apps could be causing this, maybe disabling knox stuff?...idk...help!
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: this is a screenshot from today, very upset I'm not even using it at 2k resolution for me to even deserve this ill probably end with only 5 hrs of screen on time btw i have the T-Mobile snapdragon version.

I've said it before and will say it again disabling any "bloatware" is more detrimental to overall battery life of a device. Yet every few months when a new device is announced you have crazies crawling out the woodworks starting threads about which packages to disable and how to root and ****. It has never done anything but reduce the battery life of every device I've ever owned and I've used them all trust me

Sorry but I have to disagree. How could reducing the load on your usage of processing power decrease battery life? I used bk disabler on my note 3 before getting this phone and it was a day and night difference on battery with just disabling a few things. So if you are running with 30% free ram available and I am running 50% free ram available, I can't see how I would possibly be using the same amount of battery as you.
