So I found a fix for this. The FDR did not fix. What I found worked, was downgrading back to 7.1.1 using ODIN then upgrading again, this fixed the issue I had with red tint.

Where is this nite-lite setting in GPB? I've looked at all the settings and didn't c any such mode. Def not gonna do a FDR if I can't restore my prior setup. It's a 8+hr job to do it from scratch. Shouldn't have to be forced to do that to fix an issue with the Oreo update.

My friend had this issue on an S8 after Oreo. It started by dismissing a dialog box when launching Google Play Books then opening a book. The dialog was asking something about Blue Light mode. Dismissing apparently caused a default to Blue Light mode and Always Enable. But, we could not find a way to get back to those settings in Google Play Books. Using the system setting to turn off did not work and turning on made screen colors worse. So, we uninstalled the Google Play Books app, restarted phone. Still bad colors at this point. Next, we re-installed app. After opening app and then selecting a book the same dialog box appeared. We selected Settings this time and turned the slider to OFF for Blue Light mode. Now, the Blue Light mode is off for the app and the rest of the phone screens outside of the app. Everything seems like correct colors again.

Even if you do not use Google Play Books, maybe this process will unstick a setting for you.
I'm posting to confirm that I also had this orange tint error, I just updated to Oreo tonight and noticed the tint.

I did not originally have Google Play Books installed and I was able to fix the error by doing the following:

1. Install Google Play Books

2. Download something to read (you can click the "Tell Us What You Like" button at the bottom and they will give you a free sample)

3. Open the book

4. A Pop-Up opens up saying "Night-Light Makes It Easier to Read". Click "Settings" and turn off the Night-light in the settings.

Instantly fixed it for me. Wow that was bizarre.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I had the same issue. I disabled adaptive mode on the display settings, and selected standard. This seemed to do the trick. The orange tint was the worst with Google maps for me.

Wow, my wife's phone was straight up ORANGE after the Oreo update. I never got around to researching the issue, however today I saw this post.

Your solution worked beautifully, I was soooooo frustrated trying to recalibrate, wipe cache, was about to Factory Reset and saw this post. Though she didn't have Play Books installed on this phone, some setting from a previous phone had associated itself with her Google account.

So those that say they dont have or never had Play Books, I would politely beg to differ. Play books is installed by default on many phones. There is a high probability that you may have had it as a system app, and never used it, or; you may have had an app with similar display configuration parameters.

In any event, I thank you. Now I dont have to spend hours pulling my hair out!!!!

RE: Tint on Note 8 after update

Came across this on another article and this worked perfectly for me:

Using Nova Launcher app
You should disable the Night Light feature with help from Activities option in the Nova Launcher.

Install the Nova launcher.
Press and hold on the blank area on the home screen to bring up a menu.
Tap on Widgets.
Press and hold on Activities option at the top, and drag it to anywhere on the home screen.
Scroll down and press the drop-down button for Settings app.
Find the Night Light feature and tap on it.
You will now have a shortcut on the home screen to turn on and off the Night Light feature. Tap on it to open Night Light menu.
Disable the Night Light by using the toggle button.
You can now uninstall the Nova Launcher.

THANK YOU! I didn't even have Google Play Books installed so I installed it and this fixed the problem immediately.

This was happening to my unlocked S9 after yesterday's update to enable the FM radio. I wish I had found this before factory resetting it! Lol. Which, btw, fixed the issue too. Would have rather just opened Google Play Books though.

I just (excitedly) updated to Oreo, and now I am wishing I had not. I love the new features, but two really irritating issues presented themselves:

1) My screen is not tinted an awful color. It looks almost like my blue light filter is on (but it isn't - when I turn it on it gets HILARIOUSLY bad). Whites are not white. Adaptive mode is the worst, basic mode makes it tolerable but not good at all. My screen looked so much better before.

2) My always on display is wonky. It occasionally is so dim I cannot even see it. Sometimes it is fine, other time it's bad. No rhyme or reason to it (my lighting is the same so it's not adjusting to the environment).

Neither is these things were an issue before. Anyone else experiencing these things? Any idea how to fix either one?
my aod is always dimmer but clock shows great. you will see in the daytime aod is always brighter.

Seconded, it was Google play books. Going to the Night Light setting within the Books app, it was set to ON - Never turn off automatically. For some reason this is different than the regular Blue light filter you find in phone settings, yet it was affecting everything, not just Books. Turned it off and everything back to normal. So glad I didn't follow others advice and do a factory reset, one person said they even set it up as a new phone!

Thank the maker I didn't make the mistake of doing a FDR like Verizon and Samsung said would fix it when I told them REPEATEDLY that it wasn't the fix and is 99.9999% NEVER the fix! It was beyond irritating, but so glad I waited until someone figured it out. Not sure how it was able to be a factor when it wasn't even installed on the device, but I guess that's what can happen with Android and it's glitches it produces across it's seemingly endless devices that each device manufacturer creates. I'm not at all an iOS person, but it does eliminate manufacturer issues when there's only one Apple versus however many android devices out there. Hopefully Verizon and Samsung will produce a fix so others don't make the mistake of doing a FDR!!!
