I also get the same error after installing over 4.1.83After trying this twice and installing gingerblur as well. I am still getting the "account not verified" red. Bubble when I try to turn on my hotspots.
This wasn't a problem on 4.1.57, but it's not going away this time.
I can't even use barnacle tether. It turns on and appears to be running but doesn't show up in networks on other devices.
I am quite confused by this.
Sideloading worked, though.

Be careful with this method, as it's unknown what other services rely on this check.I also get the same error after installing over 4.1.83
The new rom must be doing more checking now.
Edit: Got it working with this.
use Root Explorer, edit
"build.prop" under "system" folder,
find "ro.mot.entitlement_check=true" and change it into
"ro.mot.entitlement_check=false"
Then disable Wifi if using before enabling hotspot.
Awesome! Looking forward to it!Updating for 1.83 shortly.
Nope, the fixes are for the users that it wasn't working for. If it worked for you, you're fine.I am on 1.8.3 and used your version 1.04 to get sideloading, are there any problems that could arise that you adressed by updating?
trick a few posts earlier up, but that didnt do it either.use Root Explorer, edit
"build.prop" under "system" folder,
find "ro.mot.entitlement_check=true" and change it into
"ro.mot.entitlement_check=false"
It's the same check. By "valid data plan" they mean tethering. The only way I've gotten it to work on webtop is to make sure wifi is ON and selecting the tethering APN before loading into webtop. Then BEFORE the "Verifying account status" or whatever it says popup goes away, switch to any other APN, wait five seconds, then switch back to the tethering APN. There might be some check in the webtop itself for it, but they do seem linked.WIFI tether + sideloading apps (unknown sources) works like a charm on my GingerRoot'ed (verified by "su" in Better Terminal App) OLYFR_U4_1.5.7
But, and that's what I would like to see changed - I am using the Webtop-via-HDMI-cable-only Mod. When fire Webtop up via HDMI-cable, and I am NOT on WIFI, I get this stupid "validating your AT&T account", and then the inbuilt Firefox tells me that i need an "'appropriate' Dataplan or use WIFI".
My Beef with AT&T is, i DO have a Dataplan (unlimited for 30 bucks/month) that I grandfathered in to.
I already tried the
trick a few posts earlier up, but that didnt do it either.
Is there a way to ENABLE Internet on the Webtop via Cellular-data link only WITHOUT getting waylaid by AT&T? It works just fine DIRECTLY in the android browser, and thanks to SUBSONIC streaming app, I've been pumping gigabytes of data each month and AT&T never said anything to me for the past year (former N1 owner here).
I *suspect* that the line "ro.mot.entitlement_check=true" exist somewhere in the Webtop environment again, being the ATRIX running actually TWO different OS'es - Android and the castrated Ubuntu called Webtop.
cheers

I start the webtop with the tethering apn active and when it says validating I turn on wifi and let out connect then disconnect wifi and it works fine on 3gIt's the same check. Interesting, I'll have to try that.I start the webtop with the tethering apn active and when it says validating I turn on wifi and let out connect then disconnect wifi and it works fine on 3g
