Best one for me has been [https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.4Beta2.apk] by quite a margin.
....
I use 2017 ZSL HDR+ / Pixel 2XL options and several developer flags for best effect, the combination of which isn't possible in later builds due to missing settings.
Works well for me too. Can you share your settings in more details, there are quite a lot of them and if you have tried to get an optimal combination already it would be appreciated.

The camera config one is a major one. This setting affects the way the application interfaces with your phone's hardware.

If you use Nexus 6p config, for example, you'll get more moderate shutter speeds compared to Pixel 2 XL, at both ends of the spectrum.

In other words, if you want your shutter to run with the fastest or slowest speeds (determined by lighting conditions by default), you should select Pixel 2XL.

If you shoot in pitch black, which I did to test the 'purple tint' noise issue, you'll see that the Nexus 6p config shutter speed will only drop to about 1/10 on the Moto X4. That allows for less amplification effects, which reduces the 'purple tint', but also affects the dynamic range and data collected at the sensor.

If you shoot with the Pixel 2XL config, you'll notice the slowest speed the shutter auto-generates is 1/6, compared to the 1/10 of the Nexus 6p. Thats even slower, and you'll likely see more 'purple tint' in low light scenarios due to more data (probably too much at that speed) hitting the sensor and seemingly overloading the pixels with bad data, in a sense. That along with the amplification of the data collected is what has the biggest effect on purple tint with the Moto X4.

You'll notice the opposite effect if you test in bright light. The Pixel 2XL config lets the shutter reach faster speeds, compared to the Nexus 6p config, for example, which won't snap the shutter as fast.

Overall, it's mostly acceptable with HDR+ Enhanced on, which is the only mode you'll get a 'purple tint', if at all.

During daylight, outdoors, there's very little shutter lag, even with HDR+ Enhanced, by the way. The lower the light levels, the longer the HDR+ processing takes.

From the beginning:

Camera config: 2017 ZSL HDR+
Model: Pixel 2XL
HDR Parameters: Super High

Advanced:

HDR+ Control: ON (for access to HDR+ Enhanced mode
USE ZSL / Remove Pinkish/Reddish : ON, ON

Developer Settings:

camera.use_photos: ON
camera.diet_burst: ON
camcorder.fastswitch: ON
camera:gcam_enabled: ON
cameraprogress_overlay: ON
camera.enable_pd: ON
camera.enable_pd_blur: ON
camera.enable_hwhdr: ON
camera.enable_vesper: ON
camera.gouda.front: ON
camera.gouda_sec_img: ON
camera.p3: ON
camera.raisr: ON

Any developer flag not mentioned is left OFF. I only included a combination of the ones I found give the best effect and function; they're the only ones enabled.

Hello, I read the whole thread of this forum.
I have a Moto X4 without root.
Which is the best Google Cam apk for the X4 of Celso Azevedo's blog? Scrubber ?. Arnova?
Which one has got best performance?
I like to use the camera and take a photo in automatic mode, without making many settings.

... quick comparison in low light to show the difference between the unusable stock Moto X4 camera, and the Google camera port I linked above.

Both point and shoot; no adjustments, no tap on screen to focus or set exposure. Just opened camera and took a snap.

It depends, my phone isn't rooted either. Best performance I would say is still the one I linked above.

Set it up with the settings as I posted, it only takes a minute or two. After that, you'll be able to point and shoot without worrying about focus and exposure just fine.

All of the ported cameras require some kind of setup when first installed. The version I posted here is the most stable and consistent for our phone, from my testing, and gives the best final image results, overall. But that's just my opinion, and others may have a different preference.

Again, the version I use:

https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.4Beta2.apk

edited to add: In daylight, especially outdoors, you can use the camera even with HDR+ Enhanced and there's no shutter lag. You snap a picture, and done.

And I use mine with HDR+ on Super High, only in very low light is there any delay in processing.

Thank you so much!
Just last question: I read in Celso Azevedo blog that stable/main versions are in bold text, and you are using a beta apk.

Is it better your version than GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.5.apk which is posted in bold text ???

Yes, I would say so. The settings are more thorough, and the stability is very good.

Once you set it up, there's nothing to mess with, nothing to worry about. Every time you expect it to work, it works.

It was tagged 'beta' only because it was a test version of various features for different devices, but not necessarily because it was unstable or broken. (from my understanding)

I tried the version you posted in bold back when it came out, images produced are much noisier, to a significant degree, compared to the 1.4beta2 version, and the color accuracy is lacking as well.

I tried a LOT of mod versions before settling on 1.4beta2.

GOOD LUCK!

Last question:

What B-S-G settings are you using in your 1.4beta2 currently in order to set on my Moto X4, please ???
Another important settings that you are using ???
HDR parameters? Photo? Video?

Thanks !!! :)

Thanks for the settings. Really helped.

The HDR+ Enhanced can take seconds also in daylight if there is contrast, but makes a difference.
I can live with deactivating HDR+ Enhanced occasionally.

If I am in a hurry, I may use the stock app, works decently in good conditions. It has supposedly been improved recently (I justgot the X4 myself). There are many worse cameras out there. It is easy to start with the double twist when you are in a real hurry.. Also, I like the wide angle camera.

i see literally 0 difference between hdr+ pics from this port and pics taken by the stock camera app...
I understand you perfectly at your question.
I'm not an expert about this topic, I've been wondering for weeks what is the best Google Cam that works at the Moto X4, and above all know what settings exactly you need to get a very good performance, but I do not get much information and I think that people as you and I are very clueless about this matter.

What's 'this port', if you don't mind?

And that's a surprising thing to read, because just about any port outperforms the shoddy stock camera on this phone.

He didn't ask a question, unless he edited his post, I see no question.

I answered your questions myself, and so have others. What don't you know?

Here's a very good Google camera port, with super simple settings. I use it for my night shots especially, but it works well for general use compared to other ports on our phone. Only important setting is 'HDR+ Quality', I set mine to the highest quality.

As to the poster above, either he's using a misconfigured Google camera port, an incompatible port not intended for this device, has a hardware malfunction, or isn't using a Google camera port at all. That's the only way one can find parity between the stock camera and even the worst Google camera port.

The stock moto X4 camera app is virtually useless.

Ok, thanks!

What exactly are the settings you have set in your Google Cam apk ?. That is, in the BSG, in the HDR, etc. because I see a lot of options but I do not know which is the best to set the apk in an automatic mode to be able to take pictures.
This reply should help me and the last user too who didn't find the settings, do you understand me ???
Thank you!

The first setting is 'Auto Correction HDR+' - I use Max Quality.

The rest of the settings are just a matter of preference. Like the camera sounds, resolution, etc.

I don't enable any of the 'fixes' in the settings. The other poster doesn't need/want help, he likes the stock camera app, which is amazing.

(referring to the last apk I shared - MGC_5.2.022_AllAutoCORR_2)

Thanks for your reply. I have tried it and I do not notice much difference with Motorola stock, in interiors it makes better photos Motorola cam than Scrubber's which take dark photos.
And then, when it comes to processing a photo, it takes a lot of time ...

Alright, I see a huge difference, myself. But that's all, those are the only variants that I know work well with our device, and I tested dozens and dozens.

I also posted samples and comparisons in different places, and compared hundreds and hundreds of images captured among the different ports.

No matter what, one constant remained - the stock app is immensely inferior. That's immediately apparent.

If it's all I had, I would've returned the phone within a week. Good thing for the ports.

???

Not every version is optimal or even functional on our phones. I tested dozens and recommended the best ones according to my tests.

The samples just posted are with a version not ideal for our phone. I won't argue on subjectivity; if you think the moto camera app is superior, I think that's baffling, but it's your opinion.

Signing off this thread.

Good luck everyone.
