Please don't buy the total out dated Avin Avant 2, it runs on the outdated Jelly Bean and a dual core cpu, if you want to read more, google E46 fanatics. It isn't worth the 800 Euro
I can really recomend you the Ownice C200, it's a quadcore with 2 gb mem,
Ownice also delivers For Navall, they call the C200, the Navall 3, And they have a install/repair shop in the UK
If you can wait and want an even faster cpu, this month Ownice releases the C500 with an octacore cpu with 4 gb mem. in a expo in Moscow, Russia, and in September a messe in Frankfurt, Germany, so you got to wait until september/october.
Otherwise... If it's pure for the sound... Alpine released this expensive car radio special for the E46. http://www.alpine-electronics.nl/p/Products/navigation-system-for-bmw-3-e46/ine-w997e46

I know a much better place for your gps receiver... i have also an BMW E46 and did it like this. Before you put the radio in to the dashboard, take a short torx screwdriver(i think a nr 10), turn the 2 screws out, lower your steering wheel, push gently against the instrument panel (speedometer, rev counter and so on) so that it tilts and slide out the panel, you don't have to loose the wires, there is place enough. You wil notice a spot which fits the gps receiver perfectly, take double sided tape and stik it on the gps receiver and on the piece plastic where you put the gps receiver up, there is space enough between the backside of the instrument panel and the gps receiver. The advantage of this, is that the gps receiver sits deep in the dashboard and see the satellites (its all plastic), even if he's straight above the car and much easier to place without work around the dashboard. i took some pictures by the install, i hope that the photo link will work. https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13680481_10210410906452226_7986399072334639187_o.jpg https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13923338_10210410906532228_8449780452112279057_o.jpg https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13925688_10210410906492227_3468715446119671878_o.jpg https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13925572_10210410906612230_2621953681503679722_o.jpg https://scontent-amt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13995504_10210410907732258_6764932097505077303_o.jpg

I have a GM5150 Eonon. MTCB (Klyde) unit. Running with Malaysk ROM.
Decent enough for the price but make sure you go for a Quadcore option. The dual core that I have heats up enough in summer (25C) to trigger the "overheat protection" and the unit turns off.
