If your flashing the dark dialer SecPhone.apk you also need to flash the SecContacts.apk. Make sure you deleted or renamed the SecPhone.odex and SecContacts.odex files reboot then goto settings applications all tab find phone and contacts and contacts storage and wipe data then resync your contacts
Followed manual directions for installation(as opposed to Flash Gordon flashing) for this one:
Call Record Button Enable Call Record S4 Active

Then I installed this one, and the dialer is working again(without call recording)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405885

Wondering what to do next. I love my dialer working, but I'd also love me a call record button...

After replacing dark version of all three, I flashed the Dark Dialer again and it's working now - thank you :)
Just for your info if you flashed dark dialer and want to go back to stock you need to make sure you include the stock SecContacts.apk along with the SecPhone.apk or you will get force close.

Tried this from the OP on my Galaxy S4 Verizon ME7

extract my zip and copy the files to the appropriate folders SecPhone.apk to /system/app delete SecPhone.odex or rename SecPhone.odex to SecPhone>odex.bak and snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3 and snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm to /system/etc/snd_soc_msm. Then Reboot!
Call recording now works fine however, my speaker phone functionality is totally broken and gone now :( Any ideas on how to get back speaker phone ability?

Thats why you should download the right zip for your phone. You have a Verizon S4 not an S4 Active. Look in the Verizon thread and download zip from there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340255 or if you want the International version that is dark http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438904. The problem your are having is with the sound files they are different on the S4 Active. All my zips from the Verizon S4 Thread countain the proper sound files to enable call recording and this will fix your speaker phone. In the future make sure your downloading from the right thread I have Call Record Mods in all the carriers threads and they are specific to that carrier.

Dark Dialer Help?

I am wondering what steps I need to take to get a Black dark dialer working with call recording.

I am not receiving any errors as far as contacts not working or any thing like that. Just theme problems. For clarification I am noticing call recording and in call colors are from the SecPhone.apk, and Contacts and Dialpad setting seem to be related to SecContacts.apk. Even mixing and matching SecPhone.apk and SecContacts.apk I dont get errors but the colors dont match.

So I can get call recording to work no problem Flashing:
Call Record Button Enable Call Record S4 Active
I end up with a white Keypad/Contacts and a white Dialer. Pretty much Default Samsung +Recording

If I Flash:
Dark Dialer Call Record Button Dark Dialer Enable Call Record S4 Active
I end up with a Dark Blue International style Keypad/Contacts and Dialer with call recording

If I manually install:
I end up with a Black style Keypad/Contacts and Dialer with no call recording

is there a way to get call recording that looks like S4-Dark-Dialer-Contacts-v3.zip from [Themes] Dialer, Toggles, and Settings-Customize your active!?
This is done on my samsung active SGH-I537 MF1

It's crashing. =(

Thanks for the work on this. Call recording is very valuable.

I got a brand spanking new Sprint Galaxy S4.

I used Flash Gordon to add S4_Active_Call_Record.

Now it keeps saying "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped."

UT OH!

Any ideas?

You're in the wrong forum and you flashed the wrong file. You need to go over to the Sprint S4 forums and post your question over there. This forum is for the S4 Active which is a very different phone than the Sprint S4. Good luck.

I'm planning on the copying to folder method using the unzipped Dark Dialer files, but I have one question. Using this method, I can completely ignore the META-INF folder correct?
I think rather than the above, I should do the below. :cyclops:

So under the existing /system/etc folder I'm assuming I need to create the following folders: META-

INF/com/google/android. Then put in the two files "update-binary", and "update script". Correct?

You do not need the META-INF folder, this is where the updater script is located inside a flashable zip. So unless you are planning on flashing the zip file from recovery you do not need the META-INF folder.

Trying to return the phone back to the original files. Problems with Dark Dialer file/folder setup. I do get calls but there is a blank screen, after a message saying, "com.android.phone has stopped". On my land line where I placed the call to my phone, I get an automatic message saying "The google subscriber is not available....leave message..." I do then get a notification on my S4 Active (SGH-I537) of a voice mail, which I can play.

Renamed the original files to original names after moving dark dialer files. While doing this the phone updated a file called TwDVFSApp. Not sure if that update messed with the phone, But after a restart, my phone is stuck on the small round blue and white AT&T logo on a white background. The phone no longer boots. I did make a backup on my external SD card before I first put the dark dialer files into their respective folders.

Now I just have to google how to press the start, home, and volume buttons and how to recover. Will update later. At least I'm scratching the tip of the iceberg, and starting to learn at least a few android ins and outs.

Do you have SafeStrap installed? If so you can just flash the stock phone in the OP and it should remove ask the dark dialer stuff.

Thanks for the SafeStrap suggestion.

Don't and didn't have SafeStrap. Won't do me any goo now anyway. I think the at&t logo was them pushing an OTA update. Had a nandroid backup on my SD card, trying recovery resulted in md5 sum error. Now am doing an Android stock backup. Taking a long time.

I see OP everywhere on xda-developers. What does "OP" refer to?

Sorry this has finally developed into an 'off topic' for this great thread. I plan on trying to install the Dark Dialer files again, if my phone ever works again. That 'record' a phone call feature is sweet. I'll refrain from posting again unless it is directly related to "SecPhone Native Call Recording Enabled". xda-forums rules!!!!!!!!!!

I did notice (while my phone was in it's last half hour of instability) that I overlooked one instruction. I did not rename SecPhone.odex.

It's May have a peaceful and happy Spring!! ;)
