It is a carrier thing in the US. We already know that. It has been explained by Google and phone manufacturers long time ago.I admit I was WRONG. I just got the N950U1UEU2BQK1 (VZW) on the unlocked 950U1 from Best Buy. So it is carrier dependent now. I guess I'm never too old to learn lol. I'll post a link to the firmware. Oh and in case anyone is wondering Verizon did not add any any bloat to it.

I didn't say it's world wide. Pardon me for not being up to date on what's changed. I understand now.It is a carrier thing in the US. We already know that. It has been explained by Google and phone manufacturers long time ago.
To say that the same thing applies worldwide based on a US user's experience is just plain ignorance.
What everyone here is trying to explain is that the international version that is sold unlocked is independent from the carriers. They don't come bundled with any carrier apps.
Correct .. Verizon branded .. here's Verizon's posting on the update : https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-note8-update/OK gotch ya. That must be for the Verizon branded one. I just grabbed mine from Smartswitch on the 950U1

Should be the Krack patch for the Wi-Fi bug.Just got another update today for November thanks ATT
Yes you do have a carrier. Samsung is not a wireless company they are a manufacturer. You have to have a carrier or your phone is not turned on. Ok better than that who do you pay every month so you can talk on your phone? Whoever that is that's the one to complain to.Note 8 bought from Samsung store in Australia. No update - still on August security patch. This is actually ridiculous. No carrier involved, only Samsung.
So you are saying, that if I do not insert a sim card, and just use wifi, that my phone will get updates straight from Samsung, but when I insert a sim from any carrier, suddenly my whole phone changes, and can only get updates through those carriers?Yes you do have a carrier. That's right so if you don't insert a simcard you will just keep on waiting for a update. Unless you download a update manually. If you have a simcard in your phone from a carrier and you still are not getting updates then your carrier is dragging their feet. I have ATT and I have received 3 updates on this phone since I have had it. So if you don't have a carrier you'll have to download the update from a site.So you are saying, that if I do not insert a sim card, and just use wifi, that my phone will get updates straight from Samsung, but when I insert a sim from any carrier, suddenly my whole phone changes, and can only get updates through those carriers?
Carrier: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/OPS/
My CSC: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/XSA/
So let's say that Samsung have a little server, it has all of the carrier and non carrier approved ota files there. Now the people with their note 8s hit software update, it goes to Samsung with the model number (unique to region etc) and the CSC which then tells it what carrier owns the phone. From this they send the update down. Now the CSC cannot be changed from inserting a sim card, you would have to flash a carrier ROm to change this or buy the phone from the carrier. That's right so if you don't insert a simcard you will just keep on waiting for a update.
