Sending mms with multiple pics and phone not connecting to network until unlocked

Hello everyone,
I hadnt noticed until now that when I compose an mom's, I can add a picture, but if I try to add another, it just replaces the 1st one. Is there not a way to send an mom's with multiple pics with stock OOS?
On another note, I noticed this a while back, but if I turn off my phone and then power it back on, it doesn't start checking email or has any kind of network connectivity until it is unlocked. Again, is this normal?

Yes, that's normal on Nougat with file based encryption.

Stock messaging app is garbage. It doesn't even support single-thread group messages. Download Android Messages (or your favorite texting app).
