Could this be the reason why my HTC Sensation XE randomly re-boots while using OnDemand governor, but with Userspace governor it doesn't get any re-boots?
The OnDemand gives too low voltage maybe?
I don't know very much of these yet. Still trying to learn more about HTC Sensations :p
Yes. OnDemand spikes the CPU frequency when any stress is put on it. With a voltage too low it won't handle the sudden spike well. Userspace I believe always gives you CPU headroom, so theres no sudden spikes.

I know this from PC overclocking. If I want a lower voltage I have to turn off power saving features which make it clock down.

Just changed governor to userpace.
See if this was causing the restarts/turn-offs

//LE: already had one restart.. :-\
//LE2: had a few more restarts, some right after finishing a call and also had one with everything disabled (WiFi, sync, 3g data, gps)

Pretty sure it wasn't the governor causing this.

Right on; that's the same problem I had with ViperS 3.1.1.
Just flash the kernel manually! Using fastboot or such.
Tutorial here. (Scroll down, find the ''Extra 1: Flashing boot.img'')

It works.
(If re-boots occur after this, try different governors. Userspace is stable for me..)

But I had this problem with different ROMs (and different kernels)
I will flash the kernel again.

Yesterday I had a lot of restarts. This morning 2 already.

Done flashing kernel.

Still randomly re-booting?
Damn :/
Then you better ask Ivicask or rzr86.. Or anyone who is smarter than me :D

Is it a battery problem then?
Is the battery correctly in the slot? You may wanna try to put a piece of cardboard or something so it the battery won't budge.

The battery is fine, a momax x-level, about 6 months old. All the contacts are clean, I put some duct tape on the opposite side of the battery pins so I can't even pull it out by hand.

After I re-flashed kernel, I think I had one more restart, not sure, because I left the phone on desk and when I came back, it seemed a little slow, as if it just restarted and apps were still loading.
Anyway, I'll wait a few days and see how it is.

make sure that the battery is completely fine
becasue you have reboots with a lot of roms and kernels
tell me also what recovery are you using?
did you try wipe dalvik+cache too?
fix permissions from recovery?
i can't think something else now:(

4EXT recovery touch v.1.0.0.5 RC9
Did a full wipe, also wiped dalvik+cache after restart and also fix perms a lot of times.
No help :(

A couple of days passed by and everything seemed fine, till today I had a random turnoff in the middle of a call.

Out of interest, does everyone else use Titanium Backup? I get it to back up everything, so I guess it reloads everything, including old copies of system files too? Would explain why I have duplicates of HTC Sense, Weather etc. Mine is still turning off occasionally, but not so badly that I feel the need to buy a new phone (as I did last month lol).

I've been using ViperS 3.1.2 for a while now and I must say, I haven't had a problem since.
Zero turn offs, zero restarts!
I was beginning to think that the phone was faulty.

i have the same problem as you, ViperS 3.1.2 won't fix your problem, it will start turning off again.... i have lost hope for fixing this ...
Just noticed the phone was turned-off. :(
First time since I upgraded to 3.1.2 [about 2 weeks ago, when it came out, came from 3.1.1]
I really hoped it was a software problem and this ROM fixed that.

I am thinking about upgrading to One X.

Just a quick update, since I gave my Sensation to the Mrs, she has had no problems with it. Admittedly, this was on a fresh install of Viper 1.6.3. , but I don't think the choice of Rom would have made any difference..... I still think that, for me. there may have been a conflicting program that was being re-loaded by Titanium Backup. Fresh install, different apps and no restarts for a month and a half.

A new battery, a full wipe and ViperS did the trick for me.
The battery was swollen (almost twice as large) thus not a exaggerated decision to buy a new one.
No random reboots since a couple of months!

I had the same problem too. Got to a point where I couldn't even type my pin code before the phone rebooted again. Solved it by buying a new battery.
