Received an OTA upgrade from my Carrier for my N900W to the KitKat. Took the update (I had rooted my phone on stock firmware) and after the update, kept getting TouchWiz Error (the Standard TouchWiz app doesn't work anymore from reboot). Hard Reset phone, same problem. Reflashed from ODIN, same thing after reboot. I cannot downgrade the firmware, and didn't like using other Google Play interfaces.

So, I called my carrier who suggested I send the phone in. The service center (it says Samsung on the Building, but is an authorized service center licensed by Samsung to repair in warranty phones) told me it would be 5 - 7 working days before getting my phone back, OR, for $35.00 they could offer me 2-3 hours turnaround warranty repair. What a scam I thought, and said "No, I will wait."

3 days later Samsung Service Center called me back and denied me warranty claiming the phone had either a custom Rom or had been rooted. The girl at the counter was not clear or aware of the tech's service notes. Anyhoot, $37.75 later (had to pay the diagnostic fee, since warranty was denied and told some b.s. that Samsung wouldn't pay them for the diagnostic evaluation) I decided to pay the fee in order to get my phone back. I Was offered a replacement board repair for $375, of which I denied of course.

Called back 1-800 Samsung to complain about the shoddy service, and they said to call back when I receive the phone back and that they would transfer me over to a special department within Samsung that can log into my phone remotely to show or prove to me whether or not the phone is under warranty or not for tampering.

Give me an F'in break Samsung. I had the phone carrier unlocked. I had rooted the phone, and the phone was working perfectly on Android 4.1.2 Took your KitKat update, and have had problems due to YOUR firmware. Now, my phone is supposedly out of Warranty? Give me a Break Samsung.
Or maybe, you should have thought about manually doing the upgrade through ODIN itself rather than taking the OTA... That's just me. OTAs are known to be dangerous if you're rooted. No offense but you should've known better than to take an OTA while rooted.

Things like this are why carriers and phone makers are locking their bootloaders. Also. BTW, rooting does void you're warranty.

Just for the record, Rooting DOESN'T void warranty in the UK despite what rubbish samsung say.
Yes you'll have to write a few letters and it's a long process, but they have to prove how a hardware fault has occured due to me having root.
I understand the user in this situation is in the U.S. so fair play, i don't know your laws.

I'd also like to say that i agree that some users do mess up their devices, but as i have paid my hard earned cash on a device to own it, surely i should be able to use it the way i want to? Hence i believe the choice should be there for an unlocked boot loader. What they should really do is prevent overclocking of certain components over a certain threshold and have a reset to factory utility for firmware encase you do have boot loops. it's not difficult. i mean look at your computers OS...

I simply reflashed

I got my phone back...

The Samsung report said, and I quote "Symptom Code: C66" Who knows what that means.

I received the phone back the same way I sent it in (I left it in a virgin reboot state after a flash) and after powering on, I receive the Touch Wiz Error.

I wiped and erased everything on the phone. I downloaded the correct Baseband Version for my phone, but this time chose a NON Carrier identified baseband, rather than the carrier based baseband version. Worked perfectly. No more touchwiz error. Perhaps they (Samsung) didn't appreciate that I had the phone unlocked (the phone came from one carrier, but was unlocked and used on my present carrier), perhaps they simply look for 0x1 Knox.

Who knows, but one thing is sure, customer satisfaction supplied by the Service Center that Samsung chose to represent them will go along way with giving customers like me, that Anti Apple feeling. I hated Apple for that "Know it All" mindset, and Apple Genius Arrogance. Samsung, you copycatted even Apple Arrogance. I wonder if Apple will file in court for stealing that too LMAO.

Cheers,

It took about a week between sending it in and getting it back. The issue I had was that the note would not reboot if you pulled the battery and reinserted without having to connect it to the charger. Before I sent it in, i flashed back to stock using ODIN. I checked the status of the repair and it said they had replaced a component. I wasn't sure if they were going to do anything since I had tripped KNOX counter.

**The kicker**

I got it back today and immediately went into download mode and to my surprise, KNOX was reset to 0X0!! I know they said they were going to flash it back to stock when they got it, but i didn't think KNOX could be reset (even by them).

:D
Did you check if you got the same phone back via the IMEI?

There are apps that would emulate some of its features, but nothing that will do the same job in terms of the level of security that it offers.
For instance you can PIN protect access to an app, but it won’t then keep the data separate. Which features in particular are you looking for?

I'm pretty sure it was the same device because the water sticker by the battery was peeled a little before I sent it in. It was the same when I got it back. I no longer have the note 3..

Edit.. meant to quote someone else.. this app is testy

Seems those telling folks this efuse thing is permanent are incorrect. We just need to figure out who to bribe.
Reading the knox bounty thread - apparently someone DID leak the 'how-to' as far as the exynos variant goes. It's the snapdragon processor/knox reset that has yet to be achieved.
