I followed the instructions on the last post of that thread using the modem from the stock rom that you posted and I got this

Might be wrong but I thought sprint and verizon have their own modems and boot loaders? I notice a lot of phones here on XDA have their own development threads. It was my understanding that these ROMS were mainly for the international phones. Might be wrong... But you might want to search for a stock sprint ROM.

you were spot on Ruffbuster. Turns out my phone is an sph-l520, not an i9195. Found an unofficial cm rom for the l520 and it works perfectly. Thank you so much!
