SGIII? Sweet, but not... quite... enough to break up me & my Sky

Samsung, in certain areas such as display technology, and their Exnyos Quad Core Processors is unsurpassed. They are not "Perfect" but have as much of a claim to "Best Mobile Phone Available" as HTC does with the One X. Each have their strengths, but I see Samsung as a better device overall, a really close call, and a tough choice since I am, and have been an HTC fanbboy all the way back to HD2, a game changing device, as the first 4.3" large screen device in the US, and one of the 1st Gig Processor's (THE first in a Windows Phone. A device so awesome, I switched carriers to get it.

But yeah, Samsung should team up with an Audio brand like HTC did with Beats, and a get a bit more high end material into their designs (read aluminum, ceramic, etc.) would really sweeten what's obviously top gear gear, LOL! I now have to make a choice between the SGIII or the Galaxy Note, two amazing devices, OR... waiting on Galaxy Note II. Sigh, such a tough situ to be in, LOL. As long as I am daydreaming, can I wish that somehow Samsung (or ANY SOC manufacturer) licks the LTE on Quad Core incompatibility? I need to do more reading to understand why this is so, I mean that the current crop being incompatible with LTE is what it is, but the fact no one is touting a new, compatible quad core/LTE is what I need to understand better, but whatever the reason, it is seriously messing with my mobile nirvana. But for that, the SGSIII might be our next President; it sure would have capabilities beyond the current candidates, that much is obvious. Sigh.

I have an S3 right next to me and its blazing fast, display looks really nice and overall better to have it in person rather than just looking at pics. The audio on this thing is really loud when put on max and the display @720p watching videos is pretty nice as well.

What kinda sux is the box is "black" but the pebble blue model comes with white earbuds, slightly modified one than the skyrocket's, thought it would come with black ones :p , the white model actually looks nice too.

What kind of finish does it have? Glossy?

I love my skyrocket as well. My upgrade wont happen until May of next year, so I will see what samsung has available at that time. Depending period on the release of the G Note 2 which is what I am leaning towards. Also waiting on the confirmation of the nexus models coming out later this year.

Yeah theres really no big reason to get the S3 as the Skyrocket is still a fully capable phone +/- features that we probably won't use a lot yet and knowing Samsung they'll pump out new revisions by the end of the year. Also waiting on that new Nexus model, want to see whats new with Jellybean :D

My bro and his gf both got S3s last night as their upgrade contract ended, they were both iphone4 converts and they both really like the new phone, mainly because of how big the screen is and the quality of the phone overall, it doesnt feel as expensive as the iphones but they sure beat it in everything else

Might not be the best comparison pic but this is:
Skyrocket vs Iphone4 vs S3

No doubt the iphone will have the most neutral color (IPS). The blacks on S3 is pretty crazy. When we compared whites Skyrocket vs S3, the Skyrocket seemed to have a more "cool" temperature while the S3 was closer to neutral.

Wifi Analyzer, this is AOKP (Skyrocket) vs Stock ICS (S3) so not sure if there are any custom settings thats causing the lighter black.

Another comparison pic of the colors.

Again both are pretty good with colors in comparison but remember the S3 has a higher pixel density as well as a 720p display and... I don't really have a DSLR to get accurate shots so it can be a little bias, just a rough comparison. But you just have to see it in person if you want to see real comparison.

:D

True, but it's not like the consumers (us) are really complaining. Those of us that can afford it, change our phones like crazy. The frequent releases of new Android phones, and better technology in them, also converts more iPhone users :)

Yes international versions have quad Att doesn't because if the lte chip.honestly I highly doubt that we would actually feel the difference because this skyrocket is super smooth and I'll trade two cores for the lte speed any day IMO

I would trade LTE speeds for more ram :D

Most phone apps barely even use more than one thread yet alone 2, quad core would just be overkill. But I do like the S4 chip, its power efficient, fast and runs cool. :good:

Those of us less fortunate than others can't afford a new phone every few months so we have to wait until we can get 2 year upgrades enjoy you're 4.8 inch galaxy s2

Yeah, my area doesn't even have LTE so its kinda useless right now, some areas though have them but I'm also limited with the data plan as I was late in getting one so I have to pay new prices. My bro is paying the same as I am and he gets 2GB data while I get 300mb :( I'll try to see if they can change me to the old 2GB but paying this much for 300mb is a rip. Yes I'm still a poor college student and I will be eating ramen all this year :silly: . Some people are crazy enough to go with the International version (buy it) and get the $10 data plan (ATT might catch on to this).

And yeah there really isnt any big reason to upgrade as the Skyrocket is a fast phone. The more phones they dish out the better your next one will be :good: For example with computers I went from an i7 1st gen to an i5 2nd gen. 2nd gen run faster per clock, less heat, more power efficient and can OC higher.

3 different versions of the S3 on first release is just silly.
International: Quad Core + Non-LTE + 1GB RAM
US/Canada: Dual Core + LTE + 2GB RAM
Korea's special edition: Quad Core + LTE + 2GB RAM

But overall I prefer the S4 Snapdragon 28nm over the Exynos 32nm. The 2GB of ram helps a lot especially with multitasking and loading videos. Even with the stock ICS it loads about 1.1~gigs of the 1.6gb available which means the phone doesnt always have to stress on clearing the ram as fast as the 1GB versions.

Since you don't have LTE, have you considered T-Mobile? If you're willing to wait and buy a phone outright after it's been out for awhile, you can usually find a good deal (or just get a G-Nex from the play store). From there, their value plans are pretty cheap... even better if you can get in on a family plan. Here in west LA, T-Mo's HSPA+ speeds are actually on par w/ AT&T's LTE.

I'm thinking of waiting for my ETF to get low enough, and then bail for T-Mo (unless ATT improves their speeds and coverage in LA and/or SF). Right now, my family plan is 500 min (total) anytime minutes and 2GB for $55/person. On T-Mo, 1000 min and 2GB = $35/person. That's a $480 saving over two years! The wildcard is how cheap you can get your phone for.

Yeah for where I live right now ATT has good signal but if I were to move then I would probably consider another carrier, when I was living in Gainesville, FL the signal for ATT wasnt that great so most people went for T-mobile, some areas have worse signal. All my cousins are on Sprint and whenever I call them with my cellphone/house phone it takes like 4-5 rings = 1 ring for them so most of the time I pick carriers based on the area :D After I graduate (in a year? ) I'll probably switch over to another carrier or if I decide to move to another state I'll consider it. :good:

For now I guess I'm okay with wifi since I'm around school/home/public wifi a lot I don't have to worry as much on the data usage. Still going to try to go to the ATT store to see if they can give me the 2GB plan that my bro pays for +$18 while I'm on the 300mb and I pay +$25  hope they'll be lenient since we've been customers since Cingular days.

I am mixed on the S3 honestly. I know that it is a better phone than my Skyrocket, but I am sure the Quad core phones will be out later this year. I keep telling myself to wait, but then again I do not game on my phone at all so will the quad core really make that big a difference? I can only imagine that there will be a lot of great ROMs for the GS3 as well. I have yet to play with a GS3 yet, so I am sure that will help my decision.
