I will fork this thread to keep UK things out from Brazilian thread, please stand by

Is there any big changes in TWRP?
I didn't compile TWRP in this version, it was taken from NUT's XZDualRecovery.
It works basically as a temporary recovery and the newest changes won't matter much, actually it only boots up once the recovery anyways...
Well, you can try to flash a newer recovery with this but I won't guarantee it would work in this time.

But yes, I'm interested indeed to compile and build recoveries myself, please wait patiently until so :eek:

Also thanks for the compliments,
Cheers! :good::highfive:
I've copied the mm_twrp_recovery folder from my Z3C, which originally came from item #10 in this post: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=67522320&postcount=614, and pasted it over the one in /system/etc, and now my wife's SGP551 tablet has the new TWRP version. Thanks again, anyway!

Downgrade to Lollipop

Hi guys! Have they already upgraded this tablet for marshmallow, 23.5.A.1.291? I was having some issues on DTV. Nowadays, I use this tablet mainly to watch and record DTV, for this purpouse, the tablet is perfect! Maybe, "was"... because after the upgrade (from official Sony source), DTV wasn't functional anymore... image freezing, sounds not syncronizing, recording was freezing too.... terrible.
I already tried: restore to factory defaults, flash a generic marshmallow ROM (mine is TIM version) using Flashtool, but didn't see any improvement on DTV. I tried also flashing an stock kitkat rom, 17.1.2.A.0.314. In this one, DTV works fine! but in this version, DTV recording function isn't available.
I was planning to downgrade to lollipop rom, but I saw that Xperifirm have only stock rom for marshmallow, 23.5.A.1.291.

So, could someone have a lollipop stock rom, SGP551, for upload, please? Thanks in advance!

My wife's SGP551 tablet is running the latest Customized BR 23.5.A.1.291 firmware, and the DTV feature is running fine. Channels available in our area play fluidly. Her tablet is rooted, but I don't think it would take some part on this case.

Yeah, I also downgraded mine to 5.1.1 just to fix the DTV, some channels stop working in 6.0.1 update and i dont know why..just black screen..

    Hey brothers.

    Following the footsteps of the Brazilian D6543 Xperia Z2 thread, and since our dear Sony Brazil decided once again to release in our country a specific Digital TV-capable LTE model and since this model seems to be sold only here, I thought it would be a good idea to create a Brazilian-specific thread so we can discuss any features, details or problems specific to our device (again, just like in the Brazilian Z2 thread).

    Differences Between Models

    Most of the Z2 Tablet specs are the same on all models (SGP511, SGP512, SGP521 and SGP 541), such as the same processor (Qualcomm's MSM8974AB), 3 GB of RAM, Adreno 330, 10.1" Full HD IPS screen and so on. The only differences between the models are:

    1 - The networks/storage:
    SGP511: WiFi-only 16 GB model

    SGP512: WiFi-only 32 GB model

    SGP521: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz | GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz | LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17 and 20)

    SGP541 (3G-only version, no idea where it is sold): UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz | GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

    SGP551: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz | GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz | LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 - just like the Brazilian Xperia Z2, no bands 13, 17 and 20 here, so forget about the 700 MHz 4G/LTE when our government/carriers finally manage to use this frequency, once the analog TV signal is cleared and made available for mobile networks)

    2 - The Digital TV receiver
    Well, this speaks for itself. Fortunately, and unlike the Brazilian Xperia Z2, this one is the full seg standard.

    Apart form these two details, there is apparently no other differences from our tupiniquim model and the ones sold internationally. The Xperia Z2 Tablet White Paper for the SGP511 and SGP512 models can be found here and the one for the SGP521, SGP541 and SGP551 models can be found here. There is also a far more technical datasheet on our devices which can be found here.

    Now, I tried flashing both the unbranded UK and DE firmwares for the SGP521 on my SGP551 and when flashing without wiping my data and in both occasions it resulted in a bootloop. But flashing it with the full wipe did the job. In other words, based on my experience, you CAN flash a SGP521 firmware on our SGP551, but you HAVE TO WIPE everything (unlike the Brazilian Xperia Z2, in which you can flash a D6503 firmware on our D6543 without any wipes).

    3 - Rooting, custom recoveries, bootloader unlocking, etc.

    At this moment I can only say what I have experienced so far, and, with that regard, I can confirm to you all that you can do pretty much anything you want in that matter as if it was a international 4G/LTE Z2 Tablet (SGP521).

    Rooting tools (at least for the .314 firmware) work as they should (I've used this one in both my Z2 and my Z2 tablet, but there is also this one that should work too - these are the only ones I'm aware of). TA Backup tool also works as it should.

    For custom recoveries, I've only tried [NUT]'s XZDualRecovery (v.2.7.154) and it works like it should. Haven't ran into any problems yet.

    You should be able to unlock your bootloader just like any other Sony device, but I'm honestly unable to confirm it 100% since I haven't (nor do I intend to) unlock mine.

    (*) If anybody needs these firmwares, let me know and I'll upload them.

    Previous Firmwares (If anybody needs any of these firmwares, let me know)

    Generic BR - 17.1.2.A.0.314 - Link - (1.09 GB)
    Claro BR - 17.1.A.2.36
    Vivo BR - 17.1.A.2.36
    TIM BR - 23.0.1.A.0.167

    Notes
    This works on ANY Xperia Z2 Tablet (SGP551).
    Your Xperia Z2 Tablet does NOT have to be rooted.
    Your Xperia Z2 Tablet does NOT have to be bootloader unlocked.
    This does NOT re-lock a SIM unlocked phone (unlocking is ONCE and PERMANENT).
    This does NOT unlock your bootloader.
    (Thank you @Apollo89 for coming up with this 4 lines on your Xperia ZQ firmware thread - I think they'll help reduce any doubts newcomers might have)

    Since this is an international forum, I'd like to remind my fellow countrymen that we have to post things in English here, as per Forum Rules. But we can also post things in PT-BR, as long as we post it in English first.

    Moderators - I understand that there is a policy of avoiding country-specific threads for the sake of keeping things simple and direct, but I'd like to ask you guys to open an exception and keep an opened mind in this case since the Z2 Tablet model sold in Brazil (SGP551) is available only in here and that may raise some problems very much specific to our device that may not receive the proper attention of the general modding community (such as finding a proper FTF file for our model, issues with the DTV, apps or the available LTE bands on this model, baseband issues and so on). Since this device has just been released here and it is a top-of-the-line device (which means it is very expensive in our country) it has not received any support as of today in Brazilian forums yet, so people may be coming here with a lot of doubts regarding this specific device.

    If you guys believe a thread such as this is not important, feel free to close or delete it.

    Thanks man. Just waiting for a easy root to try it.

    Sent from my SGP551 using XDA Free mobile app

    Actually, there is a way to get root access, but it is not an easy way (it is not hard neither, it is just a bit of extra work). I've done it myself when I upgraded my Z2 Tablet to 4.4.4. And the best thing of it all is that you don't even need to wipe your device to do it - it is advisable, but I didn't do it on my tablet (only on my Z2) and it is working flawlessly so far.

    You'll need to follow the footsteps shown in this thread by norti. READ THIS THREAD FIRST.

    You'll basically need 5 things:

    1- One stock FTF file of your preference (like the one I posted for our Brazilian SGP551, the one I used);
    2- Good old Flashtool by Androxyde;
    3- PRFCreator by zxz0O0 - USE v0.5 (I've tried it with v0.6 first and ended up with an error);
    4- A flashable SuperSU file (you can find a link to the latest version in norti's thread - I believe it is v2.16); and
    5- A modded (patched) version of [NUT]'s XZDualRecovery - it is a simple patch, just add one extra command in one simple line in one simple file in XZDR's package so it can enable the RICKiller script on this firmware. Here is the link to the one I made myself..

    What you'll basically do (and I mean really basically) is use PRFCreator to create a flashable pre-rooted package that you can simply flash with TWRP, CWM or any other custom recovery (I use TWRP for most cases).

    Once you've created the flashable file, you'll basically flash it in recovery, TURN OFF THE DEVICE (DO NOT REBOOT IT), and flash ONLY THE PARTS MENTIONED BY NORTI IN HIS THREAD with Flashtool.

    Just to be on the safe side, after I flashed everything I re-flashed the patched recovery and the flashable SuperSU zip file, but that was a simply overzealous of me, you don't really need to do it.

    Like I said, it is not hard, you don't have a rocket scientist to do it, but it is a bit of work. Unfortunately there doesn't seems to be a one-click root method coming for us any time soon - we (normal mortals) will have to wait for one of those crazy devs to find an exploit in Android 4.4.4.

    Oh, and, I almost forgot - if you decide to try it, don't forget to thank @norti, @zxz0O0, @[NUT], @Androxyde and @Chainfire for all their hard work.

    sup fellas, just found a way to run TWRP and root Marshmallow 23.5.A.1.291 (in any SGP551 rom) using Claro's kernel 23.5.A.0.575

    I also have the SGP551 model and i had some doubts before seing this post, but now, almost all of them are clear.

    i think i have only 2 questions left:
    1-If i flash a SGP 521 firmware will i lose the Digital TV app?
    2- is possible to use 521 kernels on the 551 model?

    thanks man!
