I don't see the point in using CM if it has issues stock doesn't have, kinda defeats the point. I just bought the phone and just looking for root without allmanufacturer bloatware really ..

Whats difference between Derf Elots build and cm 12.1 nightly?
The point depends on your priorities. Besides the customization it offers, CM still merges the latest Google security patches into its CM12.1 source code. The difference between the nightlies and my builds are mainly in the kernel. The kernel for Z1C is not maintained by CM anymore, so it hasn't received ANY of the security related updates. So far there's about 100-200 issues (in the kernel alone, I lost count) that I have patched in my build. I would think the stock ROM has at least that many more unclosed vulnerabilities in its sources (e.g. stagefright, SSL, etc.) as compared to CM.

That being said, the Z1C is now my secondary phone, but I haven't experienced any problems with it personally. Maybe someone else has more specifics on that.

As a general note, the October security patches have been merged into CM sources this week. I'm still working on including the kernel patches, but expect to upload a new build this weekend still.

Best

Last week or so I put @derf elot's CM 12.1 on my Z1C and it works a treat, really love it.
By the way, what's your now primary phone?
I now use a Z3C as my main phone. One reason was that my wife also has one, and this way I can first test the new build on my phone before I put it on hers (she doesn't like it when I take it away for too long ;) ). Also, I really like the fact that the screen/body ratio is noticeably bigger for the Z3C and that it is a bit lighter. The downside of course is that the reason why it is lighter is that the body is not made out of metal anymore.

Personally, I am really limited to the Sony compact line because of the requirements I have for my phone (size, decent specs, sd-card, custom ROM support, etc.; waterproof is nice, too). That said, I was quite underwhelmed by the Z5C (having the SD810) and XC (quite low specs and not waterproof), which is another reason I went for the Z3C.

Thanks, I'm pretty much in the same position.
I fear the day when my Z1C will break down eventually, I've replaced the LCD and the battery already, basically putting way too much money into it.

The funny thing is how expensive the Z1C and Z3C still are, phones of that age should be well below the 300€ threshold but both are in fact a lot more expensive.
I'd personally consider the Z5C but there seems to be a fairly small development community.

I really can't see beyond Sony's compact phones, anything with a bigger screen than 4,7 inch is too big for me.

Hi derf elot,

installation without problems, updated to xposed 3.1, first tested apps work.
Installed your version of TWRP because CM Recovery was so weak, everything seems to work perfectly, especially now nandroid backup/manager again are full functional. Great!

Thanks!

Cheers

b.t.w. CM11 is totally dead on amami? any chance of resurrection?
@those who swapped from CM11 to CM12.1:
is the battery life from CM12.1 the same as CM11

There isn't really a point in doing new CM11 builds anymore. The general security patches are not merged anymore by CM because of many conflicts and incompatibilities. So there isn't really any point in patching the kernel anymore either, if security issues in mediaserver, stagefright et al. aren't patched anyways.

As for battery life, I have the same experience as @Nash123. It is slightly worse as compared to CM11, but not a deal breaker for me.

I find battery life better, I'd even say notably better.
Don't know if that's down to CM12.1 exclusively though, because I think some of the Xposed modules might be working a bit better too.

Overall the ROM is a very good bit of work from @derf elot! :good:

Edit: perhaps I've just been using Amplify a bit better, that might be all.

Hi,

made an out-of-cycle build to fix the Dirty Cow issue (CVE-2016-5195).

Works, thanks again.
One more question:
After installing your TWRP version i wanted to test the well known [Z1 Compact][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery.
It installed without failures, but trying recovery i always landed in your TWRP. Any ideas what i do wrong?

Cheers

No idea to be honest, only ever been using TWRP myself. I never really understood having more than one recovery at a time. What's the advantage?

Did you install my TWRP on FOTAKernel partition? In that case, you could use Flashtool to flash the FOTAKernel (only FOTAKernel) from latest stock and then try to install that other recovery again.

For most functions TWRP is good for elder people with lousy sight and big thumbs.
Philz Touch (a variation of CWM) has some more functions.

First: Yes, i did. And now i think to understand why it supersedes the "normal" recovery.
Seccond: I seem to be too stupid to find the FOTAKernel from latest stock. Can you please provide me some link?

Cheers
