I am torn between Mi 4c and Redmi Note 2 - do you guys think the Mi4c is worth paying more? How much better is it in performance? How about cameras - does te Mi4c's outperform RMN2's?

Well Redmi Note 2 and Mi 4c are quite different in size, CPU, RAM, etc etc.

Roughly speaking it looks to me that Redmi Note is kinda "big and slow" while Mi 4c is "small and fast", but take it with a lot of brain and humor.

For me simply the 5.5" screen size is too big: I used it with the OnePlus One and don't want to go back to that size.

Ah, one more thing: if you are a bit interested in modding (i.e. Cyanogenmod) you *have* to go with Mi 4c because of the SoC.

Great input, thank you - I was leaninng against Mi 4c, mostly because of the size and RAM, but I didn't know about modding.

How about the difference in cameras - is it notable?

Well, on a comparison from a web blog I trust, the camera of the the Redmi Note 2 took a 7.6 while the Mi 4c one a 7.7, so no, the difference should not be noticeable.

It doesn't have Gorilla Glass, anyway I think it has a protection on the glass like the Mi4i produced by Corning (that makes Gorilla Glass).

Yes true. But really it can't protect screen from scratchs. Take look at mi 4i scratch test. Its really disappointing.

Really liking how this phone looks "on paper"...
But:
1. Will I be able to flash vanilla Android? Not a big fan of MIUI.
2. Will it get marshmallow?
3. Why is it not even listed on xiaomi.com ?
4. Couldn't find an explanation of this 'tap side' feature ... is it a quick way to launch camera? I have a moto x and cannot live without something like the twist-for-camera gesture.

1. Not soon; first Xiaomi have to release kernel sources and then some dev will have to port the ROM; I'd expect something to be actually available around march-april 2016, but it's just my guess.

2. Nobody can know it yet, the device was just released and there is no Xiaomi device at all announced with MarshMallow; anyway recent Xiaomi devices got updated to the next Android major release, so I bet it will have it in a reasonable time frame.

3. Who knows?

4. Here are Mi 4c features and highlights; shortly "Edge tap" doesn't wake the device up if it is sleeping, it is just a different way to trigger the shot while inside camera app.

With regards to 3, the mi 4c is here: http://www.mi.com/mi4c/ It's not on the global site as it's a Chinese release only at this point

I hope you're wrong about the date of when it will get proper ROM support as that's half a year and I don't like how bloated miui has become over the

Is it worth updating from Lg G3 32GB 3GB ram (with sd card) where I get 40-45k on antutu on stock while 48-50 on custom Roms with tweaks. I know the score is purely numbers and doesn't necessarily mean better performance or anything.

Is it worth getting it considering the price is so low?

Or wait for mi5 or another device with Soc820.

Or buy Moto X Style with 808. This device has great battery and I really need good battery time .

What would you do ? @Giocarro @ermacwins

It's an upgrade but not that significant. You should wait for the mi5 in that case which is going to be an aboslute beast.

In your case I would wait for an 820 device I would to but I've still got the Nexus 4 and mi 4c is worth a try for the price

With a SD801 device (albeit driving a 1440p) screen I think you should wait until SD820 phones come out, unless you have the spare cash and want to try a xiaomi device I guess. I wouldn't recommend the X Style as it doesn't get great battery life; it might be a bit better than your G3 but at least the G3's battery is removable.

I'm in the exact same position as you. I have a nexus 4 that is now showing its age and the mi4c looks like the best under 300€ option. But the lack of a global rom is scaring me from buying it right now :/

Why? You could just put google apps on it and run the phone on the English language.
