Hy guys.

I have now a Samsung note 3 N9005. I use custom roms, even MIUI, I like it, and now I saw this Mi4c. What you recommend? To keep the note 3, or to change on a Mi4c? In some sites I read that the mi4c works on TDD band 38, on other site, that it doesn't supports.
My carrier starts 4G on this band, that's what I miss on note3.

Eh, we are in the same boat but my answer was based on the timings I see for Mi 4/4i.
i have bought the 4C but am actually holding out for AOSP or debloated Rom...
still using my N5 w/ 'sticky' power button for now, but if your predictions are correct (6 months), then I might as well settle with MIUI7, which is way too bloated and has crazy amount of background traffic even when idle...

I'm running MIUI on my Mi4, and I have hardly any background traffic. It sleeps like a baby and I get insane battery life.

Where are you located? How long did shipping take? Also, I see that it's on their site for pre sale, are they shipping pre sales?

Are you also on MIUI 7? I have not gotten around to tweak default app permissions yet

Not the guy you were asking, but my one was pretty fast after they processed the order using. I bought the 16GB, 2 GB RAM model and used DHL as the shipping agent. Shipping itself took about 3 days to get to Sydney, Australia, but processing was 2 days. When I say processing, I mean the amount of time it takes for Geekbuying to get the package to the shipping agent. According to the DHL tracking service, Geekbuying sat on my phone for 2 days before DHL picked it up for delivery, which pissed me off, but I could understand from an efficiency perspective. So, all things considered, it was still pretty fast and within the advertised 3-5 days.

Also, a bit about the phone itself: I quite like the phone so far; buttery smooth experience for the most part and nice build quality to go with it. Even MIUI which I thought I wouldn't like that much is a pleasant experience from an aesthetic point of view. However, the main letdown is the battery drain. Android System put an equivalent strain on my phone as WiFi - 16% used, which translated to something like a 30%/hr battery decrease just from light browsing/Reddit. The battery drained 10% overnight as well, which I thought was abnormal. I attributed this to some of the quirks of MIUI and the bloatware on it. I just disabled a bunch of apps and took some battery saving measures. Hopefully, I'll get some increased battery performance.

Also, the RAM usage on this phone isn't too impressive either; an average of 500-600 MB RAM free after a fresh restart, which means during normal usage I get about 300 - 400 MB free. Not impressed. This was the very first thing I checked after I booted my phone for the first time as well, so I don't imagine it will get better down the line. One other thing that annoys me is how small the notification icons are. They're absolutely minuscule for me. Even squinting I had trouble determining what app it was.

One of the things MIUI did get right was the aesthetics overall - the notification shade especially. It'll take some work getting there, though. For example, changing the wallpaper was a chore for me as it could only be changed through the Themes app, and not through their stock Gallery which made no sense.

Overall, I think the software side of it lets the phone down severely. I will have little hesitation flashing to a CM or AOSP ROM. Since I don't live in China, anything to do with the Mi market is bloatware as far as I'm concerned. The bloat Geekbuying put on it is annoying as well, but I didn't hold that against Xiaomi.

Sorry for the surprise wall of text. Tl;dr: Good delivery service from Geekbuying. Phone hardware is nice, but software isn't so nice. Battery drain for some unknown reason that's been known to occur on other Xiaomi phones. Nice aesthetics. 7/10 rating overall. 9/10 with the battery issue fixed.

Very good post, thanks for that! It definitely seem like the software is the main problem of this device. I haven't bought the device yet, but I'm highly considering it since my HOX is starting to go old.
Considering the great hardware and the relatively low price, it would probably be a very good device if you were able to install a custom/de-bloated rom on it.

As Rosi91 mentioned earlier in the thread, did anyone try using http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294 yet? Would be interesting to see how it works out.

I actually really like MIUI. I've used the China dev version in the US for quite some time with great battery. I'm now on the global dev ROM with very little issues.

No worries; you're welcome :) Once I've used the phone for a bit more, I might do a more in-depth review on here or Reddit. And I'm interested in trying out Debloater, but the author stopped updating 5 months ago and I'd prefer a more up-to-date service. That's just me, though. I've also managed to fix the idle battery drain - 10% down to 1% overnight, which I'm pretty happy about. I'm not sure which specific measure I took did it, but it's a start. Android System is still an offender though.

I think once I get the global dev ROM, I'd be satisfied with MIUI as well. Some of the things they implemented like one-handed use, edge tap and double tap to wake are really nice; I find increasing use for these functions by the day. MIUI is certainly growing on me.

What is holding me back from this phone is the fact there is still no LTE support in the US. I am using the Mi4 and have gotten pretty used to HSPA+, but I really do miss the speed and low latency of LTE. Another thing is lack of NFC. I would like to use Android Pay, but I've been fine this long without it. So for me, there isn't a huge jump from the Mi4 to the Mi4c besides 808 chip and a better camera.

I've got the Nexus 6P on preorder, but I'm still considering the Mi4c just because I like MIUI so much and want something new! Oh, and its cheaper, even with importing it.

I feel for you. Seems you guys got shafted with the Mi4c release. In my opinion, Mi4c was what the Nexus 5X should've been in terms of feature:price ratio, although lack of NFC seems to be a deal breaker for many people in North America, given the stink that was raised about the OnePlus Two. I'm lucky since the Mi4c supports every band used in Australia, and NFC isn't adopted here very much so the exclusion of it is inconsequential to me. You're probably better off waiting for the Mi5, although the 6P looks really nice as well, minus the screen size (whyyyyyyy).

very good phone.

got mine 2 days ago. 3/32 white model from an Italian shop directly from China.

for me 5 inch is the best size for a mobile, I don't like phablets

snappy, impressive, slim.

miui 7 (ota after powered on and online) is aesthetically good, but not my taste. a lot of bloatware (google translator is master) to remove and some headache putting the right gapps to log in with my Google account, but now I'm really impressed.

I'll wait aosp rom or I'll try the international miui when it's a little more stable... for now I enjoy the device.

Too soon to understand battery life.

if this is your size and you don't want to spend too much (~ 300$ with shipment cost.. if you wait maybe less but I've read that maybe they'll produce a small amount of quantity and I didn't want to miss this) it's definitely a very good choice.

bye

I was 50/50 on getting it but after seeing how smooth it is and the nice little animations I'll most probably order the 32gb variant next week from gearbest since it has an EU warehouse

https://youtu.be/haXUhHOZNN0
I think I read somewhere that they don't have the Mi4C in their EU warehouse, but I could remember wrong. I can't find this information right now tho, so correct me if I'm wrong :)
However, another thing that worries me a little bit is the warranty information they posted in the product notes: "2. Note: This smart phone is designed only to work with the current Android/Windows OS installed in it. Any alterations such as upgrades or flashing a newer version will void the warranty."

Does this really mean that if you upgrade the firmware (even if it's the official firmware), and something happens with the phone, then you can't return it for warranty? I completely understand if you flash custom roms and so on... but it sounds to me as it applies to ANY upgrades.

I ordered mine on Antelife, the 3GB Version for 237 Euro. You can make a tax insurence for 17 Euro, so its still not much money for that phone :)
