Are they reliable?

I went to their Spanish warehouse and chose the black 32gb and it shows it ships from Hong Kong so that's not good enough.

Where is yours coming from?
Yes they are :)

Mine is also coming from China, but with DHL shipping and Tax and Customs insurence its still just 270 Euro. Some sites sell it for 270 without shipping or anything included. So i think 270 with everything included is a good deal

Where did you calculate the customs charge?

I got my 3/32 from honorbuy (EU warehouse) and once I turned it on I noticed they had placed the google play store over the chinese stable rom.
It was a nice touch from them (no adware was placed like other stores do, I checked for that) but immediately turned it off, got TWRP, the EU rom from xiaomi.eu and it's running like a champ.
The camera is a good surprise. I was expecting a small improvement over my retiring nexus 4, but this thing has great sensor. The slow motion and timelapse recording are two nice additions too.
Overall, pretty impressed with the thing.
I still prefer the form factor of my nexus 4, as this is more "squared" and the back has little no no grip. But it's my only complaint so far. I don't even miss the stock android experience as I'm rocking Nova with Moonshine pack just like I was before.
For 280€ I could not have chosen a better phone, I'm sure of it now.

What do you mean? You get the Customs charge back from them if you bought Customs insurence.
Isn't customs a tax you pay for importing good from non EU countries? So you saying if they don't charge, they will refund you? How much was your customs charge?

In germany you just pay a VAT of 19% of the value of the good you are importing + shipping costs. No other tax on Smartphones. For me its 237 Euro + 17 Euro shipping = 48 Euro VAT. And i paid 19 Euro for the insurence at Antelife, so i get back the 48 Euro if they charge me (and i think they will, because its shipped with DHL).

But you can also buy it at honorbuy from their EU Warehouse for 280 Euro, i just didnt buy it there because the phone was only on preorder the last time i looked at honorbuy.

I am seriously debating this phone over the upcoming Nexus phones.
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi4
It's half the price (at least here, in Portugal) of the Nexus 5x if you order your 4C (3/32GB)from a retailer in europe. I've used Nexus for 3 years and was excited to see the N5 getting an upgrade this year until I saw the price and the 2GB of Ram. I couldn't care less about the fingerprint reader and the camera on Mi 4c is brilliant ( the Nexus 5c does take better shots on low light, but that's it).

It's really a no brainer. The only hard part was to convince myself to leave the Nexus "family".

Couldn't agree more. The N5X was a let down for the price and specs. It's a Android One phone without a high price

Similar thoughts here about price of Nexus 5x vs mi 4c.
The only downside (and somewhat big one) is that Nexus has clean android with no bloatware and always updated software while Xiaomi is an unknown factor to me.
There is some progress (am looking at CyanogenMod thread on the forum), but not sure if that will be stable and fully functional in the future.

I have a Redmi 1S and it is still supported with MIUI. CyanogenMod and others (like mokee) also worked pretty quickly for it. You can easily remove any bloatware from MIUI aswell so there isn't really much of a downside other than the updates will come with a small delay and it'll be community made mostly. Then again for me at least it's worth it to save 200 euros!

great phone

Hi guys,

I'm the owner of a nexus 4, and like most android vanilla fans I was putting my hopes on a Nexus 5X, but the price is a bit steep in the UK.
I 've been looking around for alternatives and mi4C was on my list, my girlfriend needed a new phone and didn't want to spend much, so I decided to use her as a guinea pig and order one for her.
To sum it up just received it and she is not getting her new phone, i'm keeping it.

Pros: Well built, great screen, very fast even with MIU,
Cons so far: a bit slippery without a cover, No AOSP

If I can get AOSP in this...

Honorbuy, bought it on thursday, received today
Hah, I see a lot of us here, Nexus 4 owners who didn't like the N5x price/value and went for this. :)

After almost a week with my new Mi4C with the EU rom, let me tell you this: I don't miss AOSP so far. And I've used it for 3 years on my N4 and for a year now on my N9. I'm not even tempted to use Cyanogen on this.
Also, the EU rom is already very good but it has some intermittent issues with screen reactivity, so I'm even tempted to flash the chinese stable rom, root it, debloat it (it's just a matter of deleting/disabling a few Mi* apps), flash some 64bit gapps and run it like that.

To be honest, MIU looks great their attempt to copy the looks of IOS created a very good looking and interesting hybrid.
I'm also not interested in following the CM path, already had that in the days of my HTC Desire HD and don't miss the constant flashing and reflashing, it's fun for a while but then you just need a stable every day phone.
If I could have an AOSP on the mi4c to pair with my N9 would be great, to be honest I hate different interfaces on the devices, if not maybe debloating would be the way to go.
For what i've seen so far it's full of Xiaomi crap and cloud stuff... if you manage to do it and make a step by step guide

:D Let me know..I might follow the foot steps...

I'll try something on the weekend. If I'm able to debloat it and remove all the micloud stuff I'll post here... No promises however.
For the interface, yeah, I'm, not using mi launcher because of the iOS look too... I use nova in all my devices, moonshine icon pack, and apart from the status bar and the physical nav buttons it looks exactly like my N4 does.
Buy yeah, these menus take a while to get used to. Too many options spread over submenus that AOSP doesn't have.

EU rom is debloated but has issues? Also does the EU rom have the remote control app translated?
Nope, but you can got the Mi Remote apk from one of the miui/xiaomi forums (can't remember which), in english, and it works just fine.
The issues with the touch screen reactivity are related to the chinese dev version of the rom (which seems to be the base for the EU rom). From what I've read last week it's a known issue and should be taken care of soon. Even so, it's not a big deal and not something that hinders the daily experience with this phone. You'll just notice that sometimes it seems that you'll have to press harder to wake the screen or register an input on a keyboard.
