So, What U recommender to convert ordinary HD TV to smart TV?
808 or 809 (or may be something else)?
What about WiFi - it is ok or too week? I have router about 6m from TV and on other floor.
And for me Netflex is most imported.
Thanks.

I'm also wondering about the 808 or 809, will mostly be used for Netflix and emulators with Sixaxis-controllers. Which ones come pre rooted, and more supported by developers?

Do the ones you are looking at have ext. anttena? Are they quad core or dual? Just asking because unless its a budget issue? You would be better off with one that is. Check out amazon. Cx919. Be sure seller is GB. There are some problems with the sticks off e bay.Do a little reading at freaktab. You will see what I mean..

At this point I would steer clear of the mk808s. I've purchased 3(1 was the b version) and only have 1 remaining. The B version died in like a month and my original mk808 lasted about 6-7 months of 2-5 hours/day of use. at ~$40/device I think I will be looking for a more durable/higher quality solution. I have looked at the CX919 and it seems a step up from the mk808s. With these things you are always buying behind the curve. I know that Allwinner has 8 core models on the horizon with the A80 and nvidia seems to be gearing up to release a tegra/K1 chip soon. That being said my dual core mk808 plays 1080p just fine(plex is best but xbmc worked). It is also powerful enough to play GTA3 off playstore and N64 roms. Unless you have some serious horsepower requirements I would focus on build quality and stability. Also check the freaktab forums for netflix/DRM compatibility as this is an issue for a lot of custom ROMs on some devices.

Just my 2 cents, hope this was useful.

If money is the issue?

I'm happy that at least one one of your mk808 is doing the job for you. If money is a issue then by all means get a dual core with no external antenna.
If you in fact do some reading at freaktab. You will gain some knowledge about a couple of points.
1. This one is simple. A external antenna is the way to go.
2. Can't tell you how many post there are about bad sticks off of e bay. Seriously, it's a epidemic.
3. The cx919 has several quality Roms including kit Kat( beta though).
4. Forget the curve. Just buy the most powerful you can and don't be sorry. If you wait for what is coming....You won't enjoy what is here today.
5. I run Netflix, the Comcast Xfinity app, XBMC, and many other apps. Never had a issue with DRM. Not a fan of Hulu Plus ...So don't know. Good Luck!!!

I am in agreement with you. Money isn't so much of an issue at this point. I'm already down ~$90 on the lower quality mk808s. I did buy mine from reputable source from Amazon. GB was one store but all of them were Prime participants.

What android device would you buy, knowing that performance is not as much of a concern and that I will use this device potentially 4-5 hours per day?

Hi there,

I see there's an MK 809iii out in the market. Does anyone know the difference with the MK 809ii?

Thanks.

Hello, I know mk908, mk908II and mk809iii, but do not know mk809ii. Maybe you have messed them up. :) While about the mk808, I think it is quite classic, there are many support, so I would prefer this one.

BTW, geekbuying will sell mk808 for $13.99, can not say it is not a good deal.

Go for 809 or any quad with good atenna

I am new to android tv in general, and I am looking to buy my first android usb stick. I am wondering if you guys would recommend the MK808 or MK809?

So far, I read that the MK808 has amazing support - since many developers and programmers have it but it seems to have a few glitches here and there (wifi and bluebooth etc.)

And the MK809 - the latest in the series. All issues on 808 seems to be addressed, but the 809 lack of support and popularity..

Please share your inputs. Thanks

    Hi,
    and Hello to everyone.

    Also bought the MK809 (T002)

    - Runs smoothly without any glitches. Latest official FW installed from mk809.com
If you update the FW dont flash the MK809II Firmware onto the MK809. TV-Dongle runs but some important functions will not work anymore.
Have just tested it to see if i can get Bluetooth support for my MicroBluetooth dongle.

    - Antutu 3.0.3 result without tweaking or overclocking: 7983 points

    - Controlled by a mini Keyboard Rii mini i8 or the MK802iii remote client app from the PlayStore.

    - Runs with my phone charger 5V/1A without problems. But to be on the safe side i also bought an extra 5V/2A power supply for 8bucks.

    - Quickly rootable with Zhoudashi tool.

    - MX Player shows all FullHD test-vids i tested from blender.org smoothly (Sintel / Tears of Steel)
Resolution 1920/1080/60 using MX players new HW Decoder. Using HW+ i had system freezes causing me to power off the system.

    - Cant say anything about digital audio output due to missing equipment. But check the MK809II thread, there is a discussion ongoing.

    - Connected devices using a passive usb-hub: 1TB HDD, 16GB Key, RF-Keyboard, USB Gamepad

For sure you can find more custom roms out there for other models, like the MK808.
I also cant say anything about the MK808 but for my needs (as a PC-replacement connected to a big screen :D) the MK809 serves perfect.

    Cheers

Thanks for the explanation. It seems to me that it really depends on what the user wants to do afterall.

MK809 is flawless for watching/stream movies, while MK808 is more about experimenting with different features / custom rom etc.?
BTW, you got the MK809 right? Not the MK809II or MK809b? (sorry, there are so many different models, that I am confused already)

I just got the MK808 and I pretty much love it. Plugged it in, messed around with the stock ROM that shipped with it (10 Jan build), then decided to go with Finless 1.6 for all the minor tweaks (e.g., power button being the most important) and I couldn't be happier.

Also, I only used it with the provided power supply for one hour. The very next day, I switched to a PS Vita charger as the power supply as I do not trust these Chinese chargers.

If you're leery of the stock ROM about having "hidden apps" or questionable apps, just install anti-spyware from the Market and run a scan. =) My initial scan came back clean.

    Just my two cents. =)

Have you tried streaming a movie from the Wifi? IMHO the wifi's in these devices are the achile's heels, still haven't decided what to do. I cba doing hw mods, too little time :)

My MK808 streamed a 4 GB MKV file just fine with no stuttering. =)

Speedtests showed no issues as well (i.e., 15 mbps down, about 1 mbps up). I get my maximum 54 mbps on the WIFI network as well (G network).

It's about 3-4 days of being left turned on now and still no issues. =D

Depends on the source. SD works fine, 720p works good, 1080p no way over wlan for me (perfect signal strenght). It was a 17GB AC3 mkv and some others....
