Should I update to MJA/M2K from the UK?

I see this notification about the 4.3 update that needs to be upgraded. Now it's persistently on my notifications bar and it's annoying.

I have a stock rooted phone with Hotspot mod and I'm afraid that updating to 4.3 is going to cause me to lose the root status, unlocked status (I'm using Vodafone SIM while I'm here) and possibly trip up other things that I'm not prepared for.

Does it matter whether I'm on the Sprint network when I upgrade the ROM? I've seen the instructions to upgrade to these newer builds that won't lose root status or trip the Knox software (does this matter?! I don't get why it matters honestly).

Appreciate the advice.

Not sure on your main question about updating off a Sprint network, but I believe you'd be fine since most folks have updates set to only update when on wifi. Wifi is not generally Sprint.

If all you want to do is get the notification to stop bothering you, on the notification pane, long press on the notification, go to App Info and uncheck the notification box. There's not a lot in the 4.3 or the MK2 updates worth having if you're happy with the phone now.

As I understand it, the Knox thing is about making the platform secure for corporate users of the phone. So companies know if the phone has been tampered with and can use that information to not let the phone access internal data, etc. From what I've read, Sprint has no problem doing any warranty/service on the phones no matter the knox status. And word is it does impact your Sammy warranty either, but that info seems more sketchy at this point.

Thanks for the info on Knox. That makes sense what you said.

I followed your instructions about the update notification so it's not bugging me now. I think I'll wait until I get back to the states to take care of this since I don't feel like it's urgent.
