Should you buy a Xperia Z or not?

When I tried the Xperia ZL at the Sony Store, I was disappointed. It feels like a plastic product and lacks the premium feel the Xperia Z offers. The lack of IP57 is also a severe drawback. I don't see any reason (certainly not LTE) for getting the ZL when the Z C6602 is available since it is a better device overall.

I appreciate your views & adore the XZ for its aesthetic design. About 45 days back, I went to buy the XZ at local sony store (in India) but found myself much impressed by the ZL, so got the ZL instead. Both are very good smartphones offering different choices to customers. Here are a few pros of one over the other which I've experienced:

ZL pros over Z:
- Notably smaller form factor with amazing screen to bezel ratio (most compact 5" fhd smartphone around).
- Curved textured back provides better grip & is comfortable for one hand use compared to XZ. It also doesn't get dirty easily.
- Camera hardware key for camera quick launch from a locked screen/sleep, which comes in handy.
- Notably louder internal speakers and louder in call sound volume via earpiece.
- IR blaster for remote app that works great.
- Attractive notification LED at the bottom changing colours according to the theme, songs, picture (viewed in album) etc like Xperia U.
- Slightly brighter screen imo (gsmarena review of ZL also points it out).

Z pros over ZL:
- IP57 Water & dust resistant.
- Sleeker & lighter profile with glass back gives it a more attractive look.
- Better placed front camera & sim/sdcard slot imo.
- More custom roms & development going for the XZ at the moment compared to ZL (most of the mods for Z do work on ZL too though).

Overall I thought the ZL was better suited to my daily use than XZ hence my decision to get it. That said, I still adore the looks of Z & maybe later on buy it for my brother.

So, it all goes down to one's own preference/choice I guess .

i held both in hand and have decided to go with the zl as well, ill just save my flagship money for the sony ip rated galaxy note 3 fighter in q4

ill probably end up buying the z for a family member as well though ;p

I just bought XZ two day ago. XZ is not so bad in all sectors except for battery and external speakers. Sony need to improve in software sector to beat their competitor. Will wait and see what sony will do in q3 to fight against Nexus 5 and Note 3. My previous phone is note 2. I hate Samsung hardware but I am a bit fan of note series..
