I use one of these.

Found this to be the only proper answer since powering a mouse, keyboard and a external hard disk with OTG would murder the device battery in seconds.
But this works.. i have not gotten around a electronics shop to grab a 100K resistor to test if that solves the charging issue yet but i will keep you posted as soon as i can get to a 100K

I'm using a standard $60 11,000mAh portable charger as well. Works fine powering my keyboard and mouse with the OTG Y cable.

I'm using this with a Y cable for OTG with f4k kernel. Works perfectly fine.
