Sim/ Carrier Unlock??

I've been scouring these forums and the internet for a few years now seeing that after Verizon did the kernel update 3.0.31. I can't say I truly understand since I don't deal with this often and since I moved to Japan I fell off topic even more so. Since its now 2016 I was wondering if they ever found a way to carrier unlock this phone. If it helps my phone is rooted.

I just got this phone, so please excuse me if I state what everyone knows.
That's the kernel I am running, but I have 4.4.2, and I have an AT&T sim in it, but I had to manually switch it to GSM and then choose between AT&T and TMobile network before it would work.

I didn't see any other GSM networks in the list, but I think that after it searched for networks, that is all it could find.
