you are greatly underestimating how hard it is to make a whole custom chip, and if tensor was truly custom I doubt whether roms would exist for it and in my opinion I would much rather have tensor be based on exynos than be a bad attempt at a custom chip
for Android being bloated you could just use degoogled lineageos or grapheneos
The reason I dislike Android is because I have a fully degoogled , rooted BLOD Nexus 5X with microG (LineageOS.. 17? 18? I don't remember.. android 10.), so I know what good AOSP can bring, considering that phone cannot even boot on stock software. Full android is overly bloated even on modern hardware.
But really, it can't be that hard. I'm pretty sure Tesla just designed custom silicon for their supercomputers, Google has significantly more capital. I don't actually know much about Tensor Gen 2, but Gen 1 made several compromises that were unacceptable, at least for the Pro models, in my opinion. It's only an issue because of stock android. Android 12 and 13 are very bad compared to 10 and 11 imo.
They could just.. not design a bad chip. Ya know, not release something before verifying it works.. maybe it's not on the engineers, maybe it's because of corporate crunch like with Cyberpunk. Either way I'm butthurt I spent $1000 on this thing when my Nexus 5X would have worked fine for a few more years. Really got me with the new camera sensors lol. (Edit for context: my daily driver was a Pixel 4XL but it bricked before Pixel 6 launch. I was using the Nexus for a month, which I had to unbrick after my Pixel 4XL bricked)
Google could invest in American industry and sell ethically produced phones, but I don't think they give a **** about any of that, only about making profit, hence why they are on Pixel 7, and release the same device twice a year. I'm simply done supporting the industry. It's all so wasteful and unethical, too much so for the rate of innovation. Apple silicon has left every other chip manufacturer including Intel in the dust. And their chips don't overheat when ambient temperature goes above 30°C like Tensor does. Google needs to design their own silicon to have a chance at lasting much longer. Nobody buys their **** anyway, except for us nerds.
