Newbie questions on rooting

Hi,

The rooting is new to me, been reading them but still digesting the info.

I guess with the xoom rooted, the xoom will not be able to get OTA updates but I will have to use the corresponding new root release?

What did you use to back up your settings...esp the network and apps settings? Since rooting will delete all data on the xoom?

Stuck at the Kernel Installation Stage

Hi,

I am stuck at the kernel installation stage 3, i am unable to drop the kernel into the SD card. The SD card appears in the PC but i am not allowed to open it, it is not accessible although i can see it at the "my computer" and "safely remove device".


I made an error when i typed :-
adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su, I typed
adb shell ln –s /system/bin/sy /system/xbin/su instead. So i repeated the steps but i when i came to this step and typed "adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su", they say the link failed as filed exists.

I could gain super user access and SD card is not working now. it was working with 3.1 before the unlocking and rooting.

Any advice how to solve this problem?

P/s- i copied into the internal SD and installed from there. So it looks like Tiamat 2.1 next!

SD Card not detected in Astro

I managed to complete the Tiamat 2.1 but i cannot access the SD card from Astro although i can see it from the desktop and from the "settings" where i can mount and unmount.

I cannot read and copy anything into this directory as well.

Looks like i did something wrong, can this be resolved?

SD card okay now

Hi,

The SD card issue solved. It is not found in EXTERNAL folder but under microsd.

I using ics teamos ums Everest mz601. Everything almost perfect except got random reboot since release #11 & # 13. Mine Motorola from malaysia
