No connection to mobile network (Emergency Calls Only)

Hi all,

I have succesfully used this guide back in 2017 to flash my unlocked 930a (ATT) bought over Ebay from HK to 930u and everything was ok for about a year, phone has been receiving OTA updates, no other issues. This lasted until around August 2018 when a) we were out of UK on holidays in Europe and b) used local SIM there (worked fine) then c) a OTA update pushed in - think it must have been first Oreo update 4CRG2.
Since then, the phone would not connect to mobile network ever. The local SIM we used first days fine wen to "Emergency Calls Only", used my main UK one with the same result. Tried all things like manually selecting network, disable/enable flight mode, disable data.. no joy.
The phone however still worked fine on Wifi effectively becoming small tablet.
There was no time for me t mess with it on holidays so ended up getting new SM-G9935 and put this one to shelf. Yet it is still perfectly good phone, kids started to use it again an I would like to be able to get working on mobile network.

Symptoms:
- There is no message complaining about SIM lock, phone lock or anything signalling an error
- Phone shows signal strength, using Signal Info it gets local mast details.
- Strange thing is, that I do have 3 country SIMs now, all working fine in other phones - but even when foreign SIM is inserted, the SIM status shows OK status, SIM provider recognised, yet Roaming is always OFF. I'm not sure if it is phone itself determining its roaming status or it is required to connect to any network). yet my phone see it in on UK network, it see there is another Euro SIM, or US T-mobile SIM... but remains constantly on "Roaming OFF".

I was looking up internet to see if anyone experienced similar issue, notably related to update, but found nothing.

Since phone has working WiFi, it has been gradually installing all updates so currently on ACSF1 (XAA). Given the Bootloader verision is A (10), I can not really downgrade back to Nougat version that I know was the last working. Tried to flash it back to 930a works, yet even then the phone won't get on the network.
Tried to flash it with various other 930u firmwares to no avail. The phone remains constantly in "Emergency calls only" and claims to have roaming OFF despite inserted SIMs should definitely be recognised as other country carrier's, i.e. in roaming. These were full "clean" flashes mostly, when tried with HOME_CSC ones, Cache Wipe and Delete Data has been performed... so there should not be anything left behind from previous software.

So I'm basically looking fro any suggestions from the experts here about what else to try to get this phone back on the network .:crying:

PS. run the IMEI check and it does not show phone on any blacklist

The new firmware was the solution.

I'm the OP here. I lost access to the account a long time ago and made a new one so here is the latest download for people who are having issues
Thank you, the new firmware worked for me. I've been trying for a few days with the original OREO and had all kinds of errors.

Does this still work for the SM-G930A updated to the latest android version, security patch, everything updated to date? I recently tried another one on here and bricked my phone. Luckily I found stock firmware that fixed it but I'm too scared to even try again because I'm so ignorant to this stuff, I need help!!

galaxy s7 couldnt convert from g930az to g930u

Any confirmation if this worked or not?

didnt work for me. got stuck in a bootloop into recovery. :(

I just installed this on my SM-G930AZ (Cricket)

Now I have a SM-G930U and don't have the bloatware.

This was super easy to install.

Make sure to use the non home CSC file. I used the home version first and it failed. When I used the non home file it worked.

Great job to those who worked on this and made this possible!

How did you get this to work? I downloaded the firmware from the link on the first page named SM-G930U_1_20180705153340_sf441dvtz6_fac-001.zip. It fails on my g930az cricket phone, causing a bootloop into recovery. the only way to get out of it is to flash the stock rom back if you can get into download mode that is. it takes many tries to get from the bootloop into download mode. I currently have g930aztus9csb1 and the phone is frp locked.

Any help to frp unlock and flash to g930u version would be amazing.
