The FCC docs show the U and U1 are made in different locations. Has nothing to do with locked or unlocked.
I've seen unlocked with both U and U1 designations.
U1 model is unlocked....u model is carrier...check out the specs and model numbers...not to mention that the full carrier firmware Downloads for each carrier are for U model and all unlocked firmwares are for U1 models...how about this...you flash the firmware for U1 models, whichever u like, and then tell us if any have any carrier bloat...I've checked 5 so far...let's see:D the reason you see unlocked with U is because we can flash carrier firmware...Ive done it several times now and changed my UNLOCKED U1 to Carrier U....then I flashed back and....yep....changed back to U1...

Coolness...wonder what's in this one...
So I am confused.
I am aware a carrier N950U can be flashed with the N950U1.
However on updato I see that there are U1 versions that say "Tmobile" "ATT" etc.
What is the difference between the N950U T-Mobile firmware and the N950U1 T-Mobile firmware?
I was under the impression that the N950U T-Mobile firmware was the normal main carrier firmware that has all the bloat, and the N950U was just a generic firmware that had ZERO carrier bloat.
If what I said is true then how can there be individual N950U1 firmware for each carrier lol.

Lastly, is there a way to flash a N950U1 firmware and still get the Wifi calling / VoLTE carrier features etc?

The individual SM-N950U1 Firmwares are just the XAA firmware with carrier settings already applied. If carrier functions are not working on unlocked firmware flash carrier csc and USERDATA files or Complete carrier Firmware...

Where do I get the CSC / Userdata files?
If I flash the U1 firmware with the carrier CSC does it still have no bloat like normal U1 firmware?
What is the benefit of doing this as opposed to just using the carrier FW? :)

WiFi calling is in the phone settings (open phone app and select the menu buttons in right corner...WiFi calling is at the bottom) for Sprint users...if not you just need to call Sprint and ask them to reprovision the imei for whitelist and add calling plus....(VoIP not yet available though)...Sprint is the most lenient with unlocked devices..

But if you want full Sprint Firmware...flash the SM-N950U firmware for Sprint...search carrier flashing in the main guide section...

I wish I asked this question earlier cause i literally stumbled into finding the wifi calling the other day. I spoke with tech support at SPRINT and he couldnt even tell me that all i had to do was open the damm phone app and go into settings. I really dont understand why even searching WI-Fi in the settings wouldnt find it but, alas i found it and it works. I do want the HD voice and Volte but its not a absolute necessity at this time if it may come with a update. or if its easy to do with ODIN/

Please help!

Hi Members,

I am new here and have a question, hoping experienced co-members can help.

I have a Samsung Note 8 from At&t and looking to flash The Note 8 unlocked U1 firmware on to it.

1) Will samsung pay still work?
2) Once i flash the Samsung Unlocked U1 firmware will i receive future updates? If so will they be directly from Samsung or still go through At&t servers?
3) Will my phone get unlocked for other carriers or still be locked to At&t sim card?

Thanks in advance.

xda-dev"s Rocks!!!!!

Hmm. I have the Note 8 unlocked phone model SM-N95OU1. I use it on Sprint. I recently found out about CALLING PLUS. I would very much like to use that feature but I cannot find it in the settings to be able to turn it on. I also cannot find VoLTE anywhere in the settings. I spoke to Sprint and Samsung but have not spoken to anyone knowledgeable. They're asking me to try to do things that sound off the wall. Is there any way to get CALLING PLUS going? I did get Wi-Fi calling to work. A few months ago Sprint had done something on their end to provision it. The option for Wi-Fi calling is not in the regular settings menu. I have to tap on PHONE and then on the top right the 3 dots and then phone settings. That's where I can turn Wi-Fi calling on/off.
I was also never able to get Sprint's visual voicemail to work. I wound up using my Google voice number with some call forwarding settings to accomplish that. I had always thought an unlocked phone is a step up. But I've come upon several issues that have caused me frustration.
Can anyone help me set up CALLING PLUS? Thank you. Eli

Search shortcut master lite in Note 8 main ,so xda searches all note 8 threads...

Here is one I posted:

For WiFi calling go to the settings in the phone app

For the rest follow this:
Enhancedlte in shortcut master lite- launch and enable

EpdgTestApp in shortcut master lite- launch
- EpdgMainActivity - launch
- select menu dots top right
- select activation settings
- select combination of options you want

com.test.LTEfunctionality in shortcut master lite- launch
- LTEFunctionalityTest- launch
- VoLTE Test UI - select
- Set N/W PS voice support - turn on
- Set N/W PS E911 support - turn on

IMS Settings in shortcut master lite- launch
- ImsSettingsLauncherActivity - launch
- IMS Service Switch - select, enable all
- IMS Profile - select
- "Your Carrier" IMS - select
- Service - select
- ensure the radios are selected for mmtel, mmtel-video, and smsip (other settings break features but play if you want...)(mmtel-video is video calling) for both sections, top and bottom...back out once and click the save icon (looks like floppy)....video may not work...I have No one to test with...lol
